Does anyone know what the relays do in the footwell by the fuse box.
The relay is the white one on lowest corner there are 6 relays all together.
The relay was buzzing and the interior light was staying on.
We have removed the relay and everything seem to work ok.
I have tried a replacement relay but that does the same also tried another headlamp light switch.
Probably just leave it alone now as seem to work ok just want to know what the relay does.

Does it stop after about 10 mins?
If so, check all the door switches :)

This is driving us mad.
We have tried 2 relays and a replacement light switch but the relay is still buzzing and the interior light stays on.
Have removed the relay which seem to cure it.
But now the alarm is being set off at 4 in the morning and the interior light then stays on some thing is setting the alarm off.
If you sit in the car then turn the sidelights on and off that then turns the interior lights off.
The interior light has 4 bulbs in it but can only get 2 to work (bulbs are ok).
We have disconnected the interior light for now and will see if the alarm goes off.
The door switches seem to be ok they each set of the low light in the foot well.
Its like having a baby in the house again having to get up at 4 in the morning to stop the noise.

The knob is the switch for the interior lights... if you pull it as you turn it, it will turn the interior lights on... there should be reasonable resistance both as you turn it and if you pull it.
The two spring clips which hold the unit in place also locate a spring and ball bearing in each side of the switch unit... one provides the resistance for turning the light switch, tother is for the pull... if neither happens then the switch has previously been removed by a butcher and needs replacing.
You might also consider removing/unplugging the alarm horn before your neighbours get trigger happpy ;)

Worth looking into powersounder removal while youre at it, IMHO. Have a search and youll see why its recommended!

Have you owned the car long, because this is a longstanding issue with Vauxhalls; there is no way to tell that pulling the light switch turns on the interior light! My mother had exactly this problem when she bought her first mk2 Cavalier in 1987, she was a bit heavy handed turning the lights off, and put the interior light on for 2 days. It also makes a worn light switch do unpredictable things. If you've changed the switch, then you probably have a wiring or relay issue, and these cannot be diagnosed over the internet.
The interior light has 2 bulbs that work off the door/light switch and the other 2 are switched on independently as 'map lights' - you can't have all 4 at once which seems odd to me.

there is no way to tell that pulling the light switch turns on the interior light! .....
I'm sure it's in the manual ....... ::) ::)
A girl at work years ago had a Monza (yes .... it was that long ago) She'd had it for a number of years without realising that you could turn the interior lights on by pulling the light switch ...... till I showed her.
