Are there any common faults re the rear end suspension set up on these cars? I have a rattle or light knock from the back whilst driving, sounds like a bush of some kind.
-
I would check the easy things first, like the rear shocks to make sure one hasn't failed, or that a pigtail hasn't broken off one of the rear springs.

Please excuse my ignorance but 'pigtail'? Is that the last part of the coil spring that you mean where it reduces in size to a smaller coil?

Yup ;)
Most likely are:
Failed shock upper mounting
Failed shock
Failing/failed rear subframe front bushes
Failed rear diff/subframe mountings
In descending order of how badly the car corners...

Not trying to teach you how to suck eggs and all that but are all your boot cubby holes and spare wheel well free of anything that may be causing the rattle ?
-
Don't want to hijack this post but.....have exactly the same problem with one of my 3.2's and as Al (HTK)has replaced most of the components mentioned, then it's got to be for me the latter i.e bushes etc, it's going to be either or all but knowing my luck it will be all of them ::)

Lol, no the boot is empty so ruled that out. But always worth checking. 😉

Thanks. I don't think the car corners too badly but it does seem to wander, although I think that may be the tracking doing that.

Could also be a failed exhaust rubber allow a bit more exhaust flex... Cold, grab the tail pipe and give it a good waggle... Any clonks and that's as good a place to start as any ;)

I know the exhaust is knocking but it's too light a sound for that.

Don't dismiss it out of hand.

Oh no of course not, always worth a check. ;)
