Title: high back end
Post by: pauls on 04 January 2016, 11:42:46
The back end of my car is sitting a bit high for my liking. I believe its due to the standard elite air shocks.
I have already changed the springs for police springs all round. If I change the shocks for b4's will this lower the car a little or is the height due to the police springs.
If I do take the air shocks off what else will I need to remove or unplug.

Also is the below the correct shocks for my 3.2

Don't quote me for pounds and pence, but Plod springs do sit the car slightly higher especially with no weight in the back, more noticeable on Estates though normally.

Might be possible to tweak the self leveling to allow the car to drop slightly :-\ can have a look whilst underneath it... pm incoming ;)

If anything my 3.2 sits tooo low, when in Wales I had to go another route as I kept grinding on a particular speed bump  :(

So can I have those SL shocks?  :)

When those springs were on my ex plod car I never noticed that the car sat high on its arse, and in fact I thought it looked right. I don't know wether that was because the car is an MV6, Good chance Al will know :y

You can remove/delete the SL suspension from the Elite as Iv done it to mine..

I have Bilstein B4's with Apex springs front and rear...

All you need do is replace the SL shocks with 'normal' shocks and just unplug the pump that is located underneath/behind drivers side wing... dont just pull the fuse as that may also be protecting another circuit...

I normally re-instate the SL when I hook up the tintent for our jollies when the season re-starts again from March/Easter :)

You can also pull the relay which will kill the pump and nothing else  :y It's one of the small black ones, if you pull the wrong one you lose main beam so easy enough to identify.

Disabling the pump and leaving the shocks in place is a sure fire way of killing the shocks...

Ok, with plod springs it might be less noticeable and take longer, but really not recommended  ;)

I seem to have mislead you Al, what I suppose I should have said was to replace the SL shocks with Bilstein shocks... Oh wait - I did..... :y

So you swap the shocks to self leveling when you need to tow :-\

Yes, but ONLY when I have the heavy caravan on the back....

I know it seems a bit of a faff to arse around changing shocks eveytime we want to go away.... but now we have a lighter caravan being delivered next week so shouldn't need to change back to SL suspension... hopefully... If it proves I need to change to SL suspension to tow, it only takes around 1/2hr to reinstate it....
