Title: plaster

Any builders, some advise please. I replaced the ceiling in my daughters bedroom around 2 years ago and never got round to skimming it over, my question is should i seal it over with pva/water mix. Or will it be ok to skim stray over.

I'd seal it to stop the nicotine stains coming through.  :y

If its plaster board then straight on, scrim tape the joints

If you are not that experienced at it  . .  I would advise that you give it a coat of 50/50 PVA/water the day before you do it . It will reduce the suction & give you more time to get the whole ceiling covered before it starts to go off.

Also don't forget that even thin skim "finish" has 2 coats . Let the first just start to go off then add a 2nd very thin coat.Suggest 2.5mm & 1 mm.   Once the 2nd starts to go off , start troweling up . A small spray bottle is handy , but use minimum water. It should polish up nicely . . but timing is the secret IMO   HTH :y

Thanks chaps, I have done the rest of the house still rubbish at it. Just wasnt sure due to being left for so long. :y

No need for two coats when skimming plaster board, timing is everything and getting it just right with a splash of water is the key.

Plaster should be around 2mm thick and it just needs to be on the verge of going off when you go back to it, wet paint brush to flick a bit of water on it and then start polishing it up  :y

And don`t use old plaster either  ;)
