Title: Car Insurance cancelled
Post by: Shackeng on 13 February 2016, 19:27:23
There was an interesting item on the Money Programme this morning. A chap had an accident in his recently acquired Golf, and at the approved repair centre, it was discovered that part of an inner headlamp was not a VW part, and the inside of the front bumper was finished incorrectly. The Ins Co declared that the insurance was invalid as the car had been modified. Fortunately, the Money Programme contacted the Ins Co., and what a surprise, they decided that they would now approve the repairs under the policy.
Begs an awful lot of questions about cars such as Omegas fitted with after market parts as OE is no longer available.! >:( >:( >:(

Think this may have something to do with EU directive on what constitutes an "original" vehicle. But then could just be insurance co. trying to wriggle out of paying up[unsuccessfully it seems]!!!

Years ago I bought a carlton CDi, first day out in it some young lady ran stright into the back of me whilst staitionary waiting to enter a roundabout on the A1  Took her details, contacted my insurance, they brought me a hire car and took mine away.

Two weeks later expecting my car to get returned I found they hadn't started work on my car yet.  I asked if I could speak to an assesor and politely told it wan't allowed.  I rang 2 or 3 times a week and couldn't get any responce at all.  After 7 weeks I phoned them again getting the same responce but in the back ground I could hear voices talking about claims, after a bit of a rant I (politely) demanded to speak to the assesor after I found it was the man I could hear in the background.

It seems the rear end damage had damaged the rear and middle exhaust sections.  They had allowed a rear box on the insurance but just as work was about to satart (7 weeks before) they found the middle section damage.  Result was they were dabateing it's replacemrnt.

I asked the 3 questions

1. How mush was the replacement exhaust pipe, they replied £26+Vat

2. How much was the car hire costing = £90 per week.

3 How much is 9 weeks @ £90 PW costing the insurance.

Result , the car was returned after 11 weeks (With both sections of the exhaust repaired. :y

On a slightly differant note to that, years ago when I was in the repair buisness, had a car come in, front smashed up. Assesor arrived and would not allow repairs as front tyres both bald. It went to court with the car owner sueing the insureance company. Judge happened to be a F1 fan and as the weather report on the day of the accident was very warm and dry, judge ruled that the car had more grip than other cars on the road due to more tyre in contact and found in owners favour. :o
