A friend has given us a scalextric set, A Formula 0ne X3. Said I would use it for when the grandchildren visited. It a fair sized track with crossovers and bridge. Unfortunately, the nosecone of the red car is missing. I obtained a cheap car from the net, a Bentley Continental. Goes like the clappers. Grandson came over and brought his Escort Mexico, and a gold and black Lancia that I bought him last year.
Basically, having never had a Scalextric...boyhood has kicked in. Seriously thinking of getting more track and scenery bits and making it 'more regular' ;D

Ive still got a few scalextric cars in the loft from the 80's , one is a black jps f1 and a white Porsche rally car . Use to try to burn the tyres off them at the starting grid :)

Going back to my early teens a friend of mine was an a big fan. He had huge permanent track set up in large cellar, with all the racetrack scenery, It must have cost his dad a fortune. Good job he was broosted.

Some old scalexric cars are worth good money, as are some complete modern sets.

Used to have a large Scalextric set up in fact until shortly before I got married.Much more involving and fun than a train set I always thought.Nowt wrong with regressing back to childhood,in fact do we blokes ever grow up?Grow older yes,but up?I think that's debatable :D ;D

I've got a big set in the loft from the 60s/70's my uncle gave me , all coopers and vanwalls and the like. All kinds of extra stuff like pits,cafe,film crew n stuff
Never used it in the 20yrs I have had it

One Christmas a cousin of mine announced that he'd found a large box of Scalextric bits. Another cousin piped up and said his company currently had an empty industrial unit. You can imagine what happened next. We had a track so large the cars needed a service half way round. 8)

Speaking of back to childhood,I saw a car-a Ford B-Max-the other day that had both an AA and a RAC badge fastened to the grille.This took me back a good many years as dad was always a member of both,yet I can't remember him ever having to call on any of their services.

If you were a kid in the 60's/70's Scalextric was a huge part of your life. I remember going to friends houses or them coming to mine to combine our track pieces to make a circuit & racing our favourite cars & Mum bringing us up sandwiches & orange squash....EEE them wer't days!

In the mid-70's the RAF Hercules fleet had regular runs to a little place called Decimommanu, a very small Italian airbase on the island of Sardinia. This was used as a base for "fast jet" squadrons to do training with live weapons in a range area near the island. The "ground time" for off-loading/on-loading was usually around 90 minutes, although 3 hours was "allocated". Once complete all we wanted to do was get away early .. no-one wants to hang around for 90 minutes for no purpose.
The civilian who ran air traffic, and was the ONLY person who could get your early departure approved, just happened to be married to the lady who ran the little coffee shop, who also sold souvenirs and other things ....... those "other things" included Hornby 00 electric train sets and Scaletrix sets ... there was obviously a link between the shop and ATC as within 5 minutes of either a train set or a scalectrix kit being purchased then clearance to depart early came through .... if no kit was purchased then no clearance ... co-incidence .. we thought not :) There was actually a register set up on the squadron listing who had purchased and who had not .... and that was partly used in allocating crews !! Needless to say ... we all had them. As I "lived in" I had no space for one .. but all my cousins, and friends kids, used to get very similar birthday and christmas presents !!

Used to have a four lane figure eight circuit in the loft some years ago when both my boys were school age. Around 40 differant cars. Decided to get rid of it all two years ago via ebay. got just shy of £500 for it all in seperate lots
