Just got a leaflet through the door. Broadband (not infinity as not available here) £4.50 a month. BT tv free for 12 months, including BT sport, which has more football than sky nowadays. £18 a month line rental. So, £22.50 for broadband and tv with sport. Free weekend calls.
I pay sky £85 a month for entertainment with sports and sky+. So, what would I lose?
The ability to record, but I could get a pvr for that. HD, which doesn't seem to be much better than SD. Access to sky channels such as Atlantic, Discovery, etc.. That might sting a bit.
But, for a reduction of £62.50 a month, it's a bit of a no-brainer really. :-\

Been in touch with sky for a moan and managed to get £18 a month knocked off. Better than nothing, I suppose. When I complained about my clunky, ancient Samsung sky box, they booked an engineer appointment, god knows what he'll do, except maybe tell me there's nothing wrong with it.

Tell them to shove their £18 where the sun doesn't shine, tell them you`re leaving and you might get more discount, if not go with BT and enjoy the savings then after 12 months go back to sky and as a new customer no doubt you`ll get a good deal :y

I must admit, Gav, I'm getting tired of fighting with all of these buggers. I switch my gas and electric through Uswitch in November, with the promise of saving £280 but, looking at my usage thus far, I'll be paying more or less the same.
I only have so many rants left in me.

I think energy companies are different, at least with BT and Sky etc what deal they give you is the one you pay :y
Personally I`d just jump ship and not get wound up, save the rant for another day ;D

I certainly won't be going TV with them. After overcharging me last August, I had a right go at them. After, the young lady said, 'How would you like your phone rental and Unlimited Infinity, caller ID, Anytime calls, 1571...all for £34.34 a month for the next twelve months.??' Sent me a mail, I agreed.
So, because of the overcharge, I had a £180 refund off last bill. All happy.
This bill is £50 overcharged. Contacted them....'No, the deal was for six months.' No it wasn't, I have paperwork !!!!
Manager phoned back, 'Sorry, we have listened to the transcript, and you were promised twelve months' !!!! 'Your account will be put back to the discount.' However, as last time, I have to wait three months to get my money back!!
I don't trust them as far as I could throw them. Not getting a chance to bugger up my TV bills too >:(

Well......I wouldn't go quite that far ;D

To be honest I think they`re all as bad as each other and i wouldn`t think twice about loyalty because they don`t give a flying f*$k once they have your money.
I have issues with Virgin Media but no one can compete round here for the speed of the internet, any that come close have stupidly low caps attached :-\

I live on an estate that was built in 2007. No cable and no fibre optics.

Shocking that they didn`t even think about putting duct work for future when they were building it :-\
I`m fortunate that I live in an area with fibre so can have relatively fast broadband without stupid caps, one of the BT packages I saw advertised had a 10Gb a month limit, no good to me at all, the last game I downloaded was 27Gb.
Unfortunately you`re stuck with Sky or BT.

And they wonder why people are buying Firesticks with hooky software on left right and centre ::)

By then the cable companies had realised that investing in new infrastructure was a hiding to nothing and, ducts or not, FTTC rollout happens to BT's agenda, so you're stuck.
My house was built in 1998 and has a generously sized duct into the street through which all sorts of cables could be pulled. Sadly, there's nothing to exploit it.

I know BT have ducted all new UG estates since the 80s.
I also know any company can use these ducts, and have been able to for a few years. But the demand isn't there. So sadly we'll have to rely on Openreach, who have done a decent job considering the (lack of) competition, making the UK one of the best connected countries in Europe, and well up there globally ;)

Hmmm....provided BT and the developers actually talk to each other:

Ducts should be provided (sometimes by developer, sometimes by BT) If they ain't, BT will often shove up a pole instead.
What they put in said ducts is based on commercial reasons (actually, in virtually all cases, it'll be copper, as FTTC is seen as the best compromise going forward).
