after a recent post regards oil changing & having answers that included converting to a screw on type. if I wished to alter mine what will I need & how will I know which filter to use. :-\ :y

If it ain't broke .... don't fix it. :y
As long as you don't swing off the filter housing (I assume yours is the same as a V6's) when you refit ity, there's no problem with the original design - I never had a problem in ithe 10 yrs of oil changes on my Omega

mine is the plastic type with the 36mm nut on top. the reason I am thinking of the change is because a previous owner has mutilated the part which the filter slides on to, & I thought I would easily be able to get a new plastic type. but not so

Oh! The V6 filter housing is ally & tends to lock up onto the base when overtightened, never had a problem with a plastic version though (not on an Omega) Why can't you get a new plastic bit? :-\

Maybe get a used one from a breaker - it's not a part that fails so should be ok - maybe a new O ring if it has one at the bottom.

I wonder if a ally housing off a V6 would fit? :-\

No, DTi Is a much taller filter.
-
No options for changing DTi one, so replace the damaged part(s)

I've just paid £10 for a genuine GM filter for my car.
Manufacturing costs would probably be less than 50p.
Main Vauxhall dealer wanted £28. Talk about taking the piss. ;D
-
£ 10.00 Thats high even for GM.

Vauxhall used to charge £20 years ago for a 24 valve Senator's oil filter

You'll need to buy oil and oil filter. And if you change oil the air filter should be replaced too.
I can tell you the part numbers for filters, if you give more information about your car

Never paid more than £3 for genuine Vectra filter, although admittedly not the v6...
-
£4 on TC for a paper V6 element... :y
