Post by: tooleater on 04 March 2016, 18:56:09
Hi guys could someone tell me, those odd looking clips on heater hoses which feed heater matrix. Engine side. Do they come off as I'm not sure if the clip or hose or both have failed. Maybe a daft ? Does a jubilee suffice if your desperate  ???

I had to remove mine to fit the hbv, very similar to the hozelok connection

They are tight fitting and shouldn't fail,

Jubilee's can cut into pipes as the heat and pressure increase. They don't expand like the spring clips on the rest of the system

This again!!!
I keep asking this: how much do we think the 32mm spigot/hose/clamp expands over the small temperature differences? And for completeness, how much do they actually expand? Some measurement is required, which I would try if I wasn't 700miles from home. I bet a micrometer is required just to get a repeatable reading.

Jubilee clips have been successfully used for years on car cooling systems, and provided decent quality ones are used should not present any issues.
The switch to the spring clip types was originally dictated by cost - its quicker and therefore cheaper during assembly, to slip one of these on than fit and tighten a jubilee clip, and it does not need further checking for tightness prior to suppling to customer.

That has always been my opinion, and the use of spring clips is only possible due to the low temperature and pressure of the water that it is expected to contain.
The biggest problems with Jubilee clips are that people use the wrong size(each size has a wide range it will fit and there is a generous overlap between the sizes. Using the smallest that works is a good bet) and/or do them up too tight.
