You're confusing units: 110NM,or (very) roughly 80Lb/ft

one of these  http://www.sealey.co.uk/PLPageBuilder.asp?id=20&method=mViewProduct&productid=13939 (http://www.sealey.co.uk/PLPageBuilder.asp?id=20&method=mViewProduct&productid=13939)  will beat a garage's windy gun without breaking a sweat. Anyone still heaving away with Halford's wimpy efforts should invest £25(less if you look properly) in one.

Not very convenient for use in the boot though  ::) ........ I have a cheapy extending wheel brace with a reverseable 17 19 socket on it .... 17 for the car & 19 for the caravan  :y

I use one of those cross type wheel braces with the four different sized ends on.Can get some decent leverage with one of those!

Corrected that for you.

Used it for more years than I care to remember and have never yet rounded a wheel nut off,nor ever failed to remove replace one with it either! You must be using it wrong if you have!

Not me, I've never liked them and have tools better suited to the job. When you need a good heave on a 750mm breaker bar to undo a wheelnut a crossbrace isn't going to work. Many of them are poor quality and badly sized. Due to the design it's far too easy to angle it on the nut as you apply torque. This is even more likely if you add the locking nut.

I've been to far too many jobs where this type of brace has rounded both itself and the nut. Then you are into butchery and hope to get the nut off. Some are so bad that they ended up being recoveries.

Of course, the real problem here is incorrectly torqued wheelnuts, which is why I always use a torquewrench on mine.

Honestly? Cross your heart ....... etc?  ::)

The last time I used a torque wrench for a wheel nut was to show my lad what the the correct torque felt like when you winged it with the wheel brace. I re-fitted a wheel just this afternoon on my daughter's car with an un-extended extendable brace.  :y

Yes. It hangs on the wall, and using it and putting it away means I know the whole job is finished.

Yeah, if I'm at home. If I'm not, they get loosened and re-torqued when I get home.

I know way 110Nm is (ish), but I like it to be right, given that I sometimes drive quite briskly, and as Nick W says, its part of the routine that you know you've finished.

I use a short 12" breaker bar to loosen off (stays in the car) then a hellfrauds torque wrench to do up and it's not let me down yet and it's all because I can't work out the angle gauge  :-[

I have known overtightened and probably rusty wheel nuts defy hexagon sockets no matter how long the breaker bar, the socket eventually twisting off the nut. What shifts them is a big impact wrench, delivering a complete torque.

I did have one of these until recently and for the same reason, car and caravan wheel bolts.  :y
My lad used it to undo a hub nut on the truck, instead of using my long breaker bar.  ::) I now have an extending metal stick, as the square bit sheared off.  ;D
