PFL estate
I opened the rear door of my car and this trim bit fell off. I can't see how it was attached in the first place. Was it glued on?

Is that metal left on the door? If so, I'd probably just use adhesive to get it back in place.
The metal comes attached to the plastic part, and is stuck to door with adhesive tape. It is not possible to remove a PFL strip from door without damaging strip (and often paintwork on door).

Option 2, remove metal part from door and buy new strip, about £55+VAT 3 years ago.

Nothing I'm going to do on a car is a critical use of this stuff.
What I use won't help you much: when I see them I buy out of date cartridges of Indasa polyurethane adhesive from the local auto paint supplier, for £2 a cartridge. I've never used a whole one, and it doesn't last long once opened. I resent paying £10 for something when I'm going to bin most of it.
Useful advice: whatever you get, you want it to be black. It just looks better. This is probably why I usually have grey, as they sell less of it!

As mentioned metal bit should be attached to the bit that fell off ! I replaced on of mine, as the rear ones can catch on the back of the drivers door when open rear.
As below, a new ones comes with the metal strip bonded to the trim. You simply peel off the adhesive tape cover and press on. There are two plastic locating pins which clip into place to you know its in the right place. If fitting new one, old one can be removed if careful, patient and take care.
Below is my before at after - I peeled the old one back more to make removal easier. sharp flat knife at the back to cut the adhesive tape to remove final old metal bit, and then plenty of cleaning and de-grease and polish before fitting new one :y

Congratulations on an excellent job! Good to know how it is done professionally. My aim is to make the car respectable enough to attend High Wycombe in May, and do it cheaply. I changed this door 2 months ago because the one that came with the car had failed wind up window. I shall attempt to glue it back on.

Terry, I used this stuff to re-seal and attach the tailgate trim on my mig to stop it dribbling water into the boot. Been on about 4months now and not budged an inch. :y
