I'm considering getting an aquarium, nothing big or fancy.I've seen two around the £40 mark. One is round and holds 10L water, the other is a shapelier tank and holds 25L.The unit I have in mind to put it on was at one time a stereo cabinet that would have held a stacker system,it's made from what I assume is veneered chipboard with the sides and top being just over half inch thick, would this be strong enough to hold either of these tanks do you think? Also I believe there is a formula of so many litres of water per fish?Given that my idea is to just have about a dozen neons,a male fighting fish and two females again would either of these tanks be suitable?

I had one for a while, more trouble than it's worth. Filters never cleaned the water properly, fish outgrew the tank and, when I had to change it, the smell nearly made me sick.
Oh yeah, and that little, tiny pump made a fickin racket when all else was quiet in the night.
Buy some beer instead.

Way back in '70's did have two 3' by 18" by 12" tanks actually managed to breed the Siamese fighters once-that was fascinating to see-as said just thinking of a few neons and the three Siamese fighters none of which exactly grow to whale dimensions ;D Don't drink either so beer instead not an option :D

I got a 6ft x 3ft x 3ft. With 2 x 2000L/h external filter. Only flush them out every 6 month. I wouldn't keep fighters in that tank with tetras. Tetras can be fin nippers and upset your fighters

I have a 110l tank with a 200ish l/ph internal eheim pump which also injects air and is very quiet.
I've had a range of fish in it and had all sorts of algae growth
I also have a 12n tank just for a single fighting fish
