Title: EML on
Post by: ronnyd on 13 March 2016, 13:04:29
Started car yesterday to come home, took a few more cranks than usual to fire (usually instant). Light came on (engine block not spanner light). Is this an emissions problem or could it be crank sensor problem? Light stays on constantly (not flashing) and car drives ok except kickdown a bit sluggish. Tried to do pedal test but no go. Car has done 109k so is probably in crank sensor fail territory. Just not sure which light means what as manual says that this light is emissions and spanner light is engine. Can someone enlighten me please. TIA. ???

Drop some Wynns fuel system treatment in, top off with V power and give it a good thrashing. Should turn the light off again :y

Suspect the cam sensor is starting to fail, looking at symptoms.

But get it on a reader

The first time i started it this morning (before i posted up problem) light stayed on, started again at 2pm and light disappeared. Put some Wynnes  in and filled up with vpower ( as per Al,s suggestion) so whether it,s the placebo effect or not, seems to go better than ever. Is it still advisable to get codes read?

Just had codes read by the guy who does all my repairs/servicing and no codes are showing so will just see how things go in the next few days/ weeks.

OK. Anyone near you with a more GM oriented code reader?  We've seen this a number of times before when generic Snap-Offs and similar report no codes when there are some...  ...though usually on earlier 2.2s

Although, on the upside, its likely to get progressively worse, when hopefully the reader will pick it up.

If my hunch of cam sensor is right, it won't leave you stranded, it just needs more effort to start it

Pretty much guarantee that it's 0420/0430 ;) which, apart from leaving the light on, makes sod all difference to day to day running...

Since using the Wynnes and filling up with Vpower the light has stayed off so far. that includes two trips each way to Papworth to have a Catheter Ablation for my A/F. 250+ miles so far. Must say that i,m now moving quite a bit slower now. :'( :'(, At least the car isn,t :y
