Title: Buzzing noise
Post by: Andy663 on 17 March 2016, 18:37:20
When I turn the key in the ignition and all the lights on the dash come on, without the engine being on, I can hear a buzzing noise from the engine compartment. It sounds like it's coming from just below the expansion tank, where coolant pipes join into something larger, is it a secondary pump or a filter of some sort?  It maybe unconnected but the drivers side windscreen washer has stopped working, the passenger one is fine.  Any ideas what's buzzing?

That sounds like your aux coolant pump, part of Winter Pack, for pumping warm coolant around without engine running.

Could also be the self levelling pump ;)

Most cars have a buzz when the lights are on,  I always thought it was the battery charging the starter relay ready for ignition

The ecc has a small fan and sensor in the centre console  (small grill in the console usually filled with dust) which can buzz
