Title: I've blown my wad....
Post by: deviator on 19 March 2016, 18:22:55
....straight out the back of my exhaust! It looks like Rapunzel is trying to escape my back box.

I presume this is just the back box breaking down? IE I need another one.

or splits the backbox and melts a hole in the fuel tank (I kid you not - it has happened to one of the OOF contributors).

Eek!  When I had this issue it was on a GSi Carlton - those had steel tanks  :D

I've noticed it over the last few days. I must have pulled over 50ft out. I've done about 100-200 miles in that time and it hasn't fully coughed its lungs up  ;)

EDIT

What do people recommend? Second hand original? Or decent aftermarket? I wouldn't be upset to upgrade a little, even if that means a catback system.

I did that up Garaby hill over taking a 4x4 towing a caravan, really struggling in third, foot flat to the floor and then the wad came out with a huge bang and the car took off like a scalded cat.
Good job I was over taking as the wad landed in the offside verge, if I had have been in my lane the following car would have had it through the windscreen  :-X

A complete new, cat-back system is about £90 delivered. It simply isn't worth fitting anything else.

Make sure you wear gloves if you have to keep pulling it out as that stuff itches like hell on bare hands and arms. I made a hook from thin rod and a file handle to do it while i was waiting for my replacement box to arrive. :y

That is the system I have put on two of mine, Dave...
Took four days to get from Poland :y

You are lucky you had hair coming out....You may remember me posting a pic on here of my backbox, which must have blocked, then exploded at speed on a dual carriageway. The car physically jumped into the air. Frightened me and wifey to bits :)
