Title: Fuel tank
Post by: gbh on 21 March 2016, 21:03:33
Was towing the new car back on trailer when big bang and the back box blew up,decided to keep going mineful of the petrol tank but with all the fibres hanging out thought it might be ok.Well checked today after cutting back box off, nothing left inside only fibres but the petrol tank seems to have expanded on its seam, quite wide in fact.Does anyone know if they are double skinned or is it just safer to get a new tank? Thanks Glenn

I wouldn't take any chances  ;)

Stick a request in the parts section and change it  :y

Fuel tanks aren't double skinned. They are thick (around 5mm ?) plastic. I would get one from a breaker.  :y

Are you sure you're looking at the fuel tank? And what happened to the heat shield around the exhaust?

The back box split open and yesterday i took the heat shield off.Under it the tank has a seam around its middle, the seam has widened to almost an 1.5 cm and at one point you can poke your little finger in about 1cm. The plastic is still there and no petrol appears to be coming out but it looks like another tank needed!!
