Longshot but i'm rebuilding my old VW Scirocco and am having some carb issues, it's a Pierburg 2E2 that was also fitted to a fair few old Vaux's astras and cavaliers and it's the autochoke mechanism giving me jib.
I'm being a total mingebag due to the parts being outrageously expensive so if anyone has one knocking around in a shed give me a shout as it would be put to good use :y

That brings back some frustrating memories ;D
I fitted a manual choke to my Astra when I got fed up with the auto choke. Later I bought a refurb kit and discovered that the only part I needed was the diaphragm & plunger in the accelerator pump. I keep finding the bag of little gaskets and bits and pieces when I am looking for something else ::)
The plunger has a spring loaded ball bearing trapped inside it. Over time the spring gets shorter and reduces the travel of the accelerator pump resulting in the engine faltering or stalling just as you get halfway onto a roundabout >:(
I don't imagine the bits I have are any use - the manual choke went with the rest of the car years ago.

I seem to recall a couple of old carbs somewhere.
One is a old Ford VV off a mk3 escort, cant remember what the other is :-\
I'll be in the shed later so i'll have a dig around :y

There used to be a Weber conversion for those, don't know if one is stll available ???
-
Always thought the older Vauxhalls/opels used Solex carbs..? Or am I thinking of old Fords from the 70's...?
-
1.2 Nova was 2E2 but had a manual choke, I seem to recall the auto choke units were all 2E3 on the 1.3's
Its a long shot but I might have a 2E2 with manual choke (I may have binned it, cant recall)

There is but £250 crosses the economically viable restoration line, nice cars but not worth a huge amount. Thanks peeps and keep me posted !

Is it the Bi-metallic coil in the water housing that's gone?
Or the vac pull off which opens the throttle butterfly slightly after the engine fires?
-
The coiled heater element behind the bi metallic coil has broken up, this part is £120 + VAT :o, also have a couple of perished pipes which are easily sourced. Waxstat seem's ok thankfully

Oops. You're right about the 1.3 Astra being a 2e3.
I might still have the bimetallic strip somewhere for a 2e3 if that helps.

Used to fit the inlet manifold and carb from the 1.3 plus the manifold and front pipe to the 1.2's, as a result the 1.2 got to within 5 bhp of the 1.3 :y

I understood that the 1.2 was an Opel pushrod engine and assumed that the SOHC 1.3 was an 'all new' design. I'm guessing that the 1.3 wasn't that new then ;)
