Title: Costco Kirkland tool box 42 inch
Post by: Webby the Bear on 28 March 2016, 13:54:39
Stumbled across this bad boy last week. It's a beast and is really thick and meaty looking.

For the price too I was most impressed.

Anyone got one / got any more info on good bits and bad bits?

Looks like its got alloy wheels on it as well, should think so for that price.

Nearly 500 quid for a metal box.   :-X

True. But I've never seen one that big for that price. Similar from strap-on would be well in the thousands.

A few years back they had a huge stainless toolbox. IIRC it was around the £2000 mark!  :o

Eyed them up in store before, where I think they are cheaper as well (most stuff is).

Kirkland is Costco's own brand, and generally decent quality

Yeah I've seen this in the flesh and I was impressed how sturdy it looks. And how large it is.

If it helps you decide I've currently got a Clarke HD roll cab and top box, and have previously had snap-on  and I'm about to buy the Costco box.  For the price I think it's well made and it's slightly taller than the Clarke.  The fact it's got a full width drawer is a big advantage in my opinion.

Nice one mate. I think for the price it's a bargain compared to others available. And I'm fast growing out of my hell frauds box

They do a matching middle box now, which gives another 3 drawers.

Then it's time to bin some of the moulded cases that stuff comes in. Or use the welder to make some racks for the side.

Nope. All moulded boxes are in a pile behind the tool box.

I could weld some brackets. Or I could indulge on a new box lol

You can never have too many tools or boxes.
I currently have the Clarke 43" roll cab and top box the smaller 27" roll cab and top box plus service cart and they're all overflowing.   Hence the reason for the Costco box.
There always seems to be another tool you need/want so it's handy to have the extra storage available.
Webby I don't think you'll ever regret getting the Costco box but don't get rid of your current box...

Ah, cheapstake red one then. The black ones have a LOT more room for not much more.

But if buying from scratch, the Kirkland one isn't too bad. Pop in store, as they frequently have a better range, as their UK website is crap.

I can understand that  ;D

Steve, would another Industrial box and rollcab do? I have nowhere to use the hardly used ones I had at work, so they are stashed  in a friend's lockup. £200 to you or anyone else here

Ah, the Halfords ones :y

If young'un doesn't want them, would you be going to Wycombe, or otherwise passing nearer this way?

I just bought the 'middle' Halfords industrial box to add to the stack of two (plus three red 'Professional' boxes) .. if I was doing it again I'd get a pair of the Costco boxes though.

Come to think of it the new house has two garages (a double and a wide single) - does that make an excuse to buy another set of boxes? ;D
