This is a question I had yesterday at work, just why are we all so interested in what he considers an ordinary car?

Omega is very ordinary and the V6 performance will never be neck snapping.
There are much faster machines out there... The omega just comes out well "overall" as a usable car.
-
Sheesh -- just typed out a long and verbose response -- then hit "reset" :-[
Long and short of it was:
What is "ordinary" ..... compare the Omega to a KA and the Omega will have more presence and cost a fair bit more new ..... make the comparison to a Countach and we will slip the other way !!!
When new the Omega Elite was in the £20 - £30K price bracket -- not your "run of the mill" car

Well it was good enough for your bosses son to ride around in.
Prince Charles was regularly seen getting out of a miggy IIRC.

Everyone just has a different perspective, Omega's like all GM products are / were produced in significant numbers and are hardly exclusive.
I like mine because I like Vauxhalls and after Cavaliers, Calibra's, Carlton's and Vectra's the Omega seemed to be the obvious choice and was a lot of car and equipment for the money (even more so if you buy one now).
Equally I like Rover SD1's but everybody else says they are C@@p... like everything in life I guess it's all down to what you want and like and not following the crowd just over the badge. Takes all sorts to make the World go round.

The Vauxhall omega is an extraordinary car for very ordinary money.
People who know little about cars think it is very expensive and therefore i am exceedingly rich.
I do little to change the opinions of these people. :-* :-* :-* :-*
-
A 3.0 V6 is only slightly slower from 50 to exceedingly silly figures than a Go-faster Focus (RS?) I'd overtaken him/her a few miles before hand while he/she was fannying about. After a few miles he/she decided that he/she would leave my 'ordinary barge' behind. He/she did, but not as anticipated. The M61 was a little too busy for twice the limit .... allegedly. :-X

Had both the Rover SD1 and Rover 800's (ministerial cars both) Mercedes C Class (W202) S Class (W126 & W140) and Land Rover Discovery. All classed as "Posh" cars, and I enjoyed the cars with the exception of the SD1's being water soluble, Land Rover falling apart each time you moved, BAD Rust on the Mercedes and £110 for S Class wiper blades!
But the cars I found comfy, drivable enjoyable and never wanted to part with as well as great looking were Carlton, Senators and Omegas.
They are not ordinary cars, they are just not pretentious. For some people it is more important to pay twice the price for an inferior car with a so-called "Premium" badge.

Comfort, space, value for money, nice to drive, great motorway car, feeling of safety and solidness.
-
And an exellent forum to add. if I had to sum up the mig.... it is just comfortable!! Thats without considering what it is capable of.
just a very very nice car. :y
-
the Omega is understated and unpretentious .It does not need big wings and halfords add ons to make it look better,in fact quite the opposite is true.
You even now occasionally see Gordon Brown getting into the back of one outside 10 downing Street.
Classy, elegant, refined, roomy ,quick and excellent value for money yes.Ordinary,no way. :y :y :y
-
Thing is, an "ordinary car" these days is FWD and diesel. Generally not very comfortable, average handling and poor ride quality, noisy and slow.
Granted the Omega is no sports car, it's understated and probably doesn't stand out as anything special to the casual observer. Jump in an "ordinary car" sometime and you realise its' strengths pretty damn quick, though.

I like the fact the Omega was made by an ordinary manufacturer. People show an interest in mine because it has presence which for an "ordinary" car is an achievement & shows personal taste which money can't buy.
Tell your boss he's missing the point!!!!!!!!!!!! ::)
