Title: Smart meters
Post by: STEMO on 01 April 2016, 18:23:02
Another example of infuriating arrogance from the government. We are going to have to pay for their installation through our energy bills, so the predicted £26 a year saving on our energy look's pretty inconsequential. Then the energy companies get to sack all their meter readers, saving a fortune.

Bastards.

Thought you'd have realised by now that any money saving "initiative" is going to end up costing you.The money saving bit is for the government/business involved >:(

I don't think I'll bother with one......as I don't think I would save any money by having one.....ie smart meter tells me I'm using 200W....ok i'll turn off the tv and sit in the dark....yer right...
Smart meter tells me I'm using 1KW.....ok i'll go and the dishwasher off .....yer right  ::)
And on it goes....... ;D

Having working in the metering industry for a long time they won't be optional, and of course we are all going to have to pay one way or another. When the old electricity boards went private most got rid of their metering depts and stopping reading 4 times a year but by law they have to read/look at your metering once every 2 years. Most of the smart meters already fitted will have to come out again and be replaced.Savings ! Well at least you should get no more estimates, good for the enviroment and all that green nonsense, hardly, every existing meter both gas and electric will be binned instead of being reused as in the past.Electronics, batteries, mobile phone all go wrong and this will need servicing quite a bit and all because the governments you all voted for allowed the companies to stop reading meters and save themselves money,Oh and the interest free loans they can take with overpayments and direct debits..Still can't  complain as they are paying my pension!!!!

EON contacted me and asked if I'd like a smart meter but so far they have missed four appointments to fit one. They phone on the day of installation to cancel, saying that the fitter is ill, so they can stick it up their arse now.  ::)

I was told there was not enough space to fit them in outside boxes (mines flush to the wall) nut looking at the pics they seem to be smaller than the standard units.

If E.on miss an appointment they usually have to pay £20 that's why they phone on the day,as for meters not fitting in an outside box well they don't make them bigger that's for sure!!

In fairness, they did pay/credit my account with £15 for each cancelled visit, even though they cancelled on the appointment date.  :y
I was quite happy for them to keep failing to turn up as it put my account in credit.  ;D  This was over a year ago so it's probably gone up to £20 now as you say.  :y

They tried but couldn't fit one at our place due to weak mobile signal. Whatever.

At the end of the day if you are savvy with your energy use like me (cos i am a tight git) a smart meter is an electronic way of teaching your grandmother how to suck eggs. The government state that the fitting of these devices is free Hmm! call me a suspicious but "I don't think so"
