Title: BT Fibre speed increase
Post by: Jimbob on 15 April 2016, 18:06:21
Just seen if you order infinity 1, the speeds are now 52 meg down not 38.

Also available if you recontract.

Wonder if they will do the same with inifinity 2 at some point soon?  Hope so, but would have thought they would have done them both together.

Just got a free upgrade on the Virgin connection to 200 downstream.  Still got a pathetic 10 up though which limits my VPN throughput.

Besides, I probably wont be with them for much longer.   At least for the next 12 months anyhoo ::)

I think the "up to" 300Mb FTTC service will start to be rolled out soon....

I've heard some of Brakkers is getting FTTP, but suspect that will be the new ones  :'(

There was an item on news this morning saying companies are "misleading"public as far as broadband speeds are concerned, but apparently they can advertise a speed as long as 1 in 10 customers can achieve this.I'm not clued up enough on computer stuff to say whether this is correct or not.I've absolutely no idea what I get or how to find out.Computer does what I want of it so I'm happy.

Just type 'broadband speed test' into Google and you can take your pick of dozens of free speed checks, they only take a couple of minutes there you have it.

If I lived 50 meters away from where I do, could have fttp.

By us, if you have a pole, you can have it, if underground you cant, as far as I can tell.

Not sure how much I'd pay for it mind.....

But you'd save nearly £20 on a phone line (unless you particularly needed a non-IP based landline).  Based on that, up to £50 I'd be quids in, and I'd debate further costs based on real upload speeds (my Achilles heal)
