Title: Used car salesmen
Post by: Andy B on 18 April 2016, 20:28:41
I told him I'd share my experience of his garage with everyone I know so here goes ......

I've thought about retiring my Smart Roadster to weekend toy so considered a 'normal' fortwo Smart and saw this 84bhp version ie turbo'd, similar to my Roadster. Fortwo (http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201603111851490?utm_source=Triggered_Emails&utm_medium=Email&utm_campaign=Email_a_Dealer)
By default they do NOT have power steering and after a drive of AN Other Smart for sale I've decided that (as small as they are)I'd prefer PAS.
I phoned him this morning to specifically ask if the car had PAS. He said yes, I asked if he was sure because they don't all have it and in an air of superiority said YES again. So I drove the 45 miles or so to get there, got stuck in traffic in the centre of Bratford and arrived an hour & three quarters later. I eventually got see him after wandering around the premises for 10 mins and resorting to phoning him from outside. He wandered up with the key & opened it. I asked if I could start it. No he said!!  ??? I said I wanted to confirm it had PAS. His reply was ..... 'why would it NOT have it?' I briefly & curtly explained why  >:(. He started the car, after he found the ignition in the middle, tried to turn the wheel & meekly shook his head & said no.
What a CITY BANKER!!!!!!!!!!! I expressed my delight in my wasted time & walked ..... before I said anything else.
So if you want to waste 4 hours of your time going to see a car that you've asked specific questions about and not even be allowed to start it, then Wilsden Autos  http://www.wilsdenautos.co.uk/  in Bratford is THE place to go.

Perhaps their salesmen  ::) should take a leaf from thier cuurent website..."undergo some maintenance " ;D

All they want is your money. :(.knowledge of what they are selling went out of the window years ago in that profession  :-\..in the vast majority of cases

They used to have a good reputation, must have gone down hill a lot in the last ten years, just like the rest of Bradistan.

Not what you need when you're traveling to see a car  :-\

Why wouldn't he let you start the car? ???

Indeed bizarre behaviour.

I had a similar experience a number of years ago when I was looking for a manual Saab 9-5 Aero. 45minute trip to discover that it was deficient to the tune  of 1 pedal. The b*£$!ard had the cheek to say "I thought when you saw it the condition would sell it to you".

I may have come across a little acerbic in my response.  >:(

Not sure what had happened, but Pold had a major road in the centre of Bradford closed ...... it was gridlocked for miles which ever way you looked

The last thing you need is a smarmy car salesman when you've endured a long journey. :'(

Presumably it'd be obvious with the slightest turning pressure on the wheel before ignotion, upon starting the engine, the wheel would turn as the assistance kicked in. Presumably he was then hoping the OP would not test drive it.... and then not notice upon buying the car. Utterly ridiculous.

The smart fortwo is in the top ten loss making vehicles in Europe. IIRC, each on e sold costs the manufacturer about €4000. The biggest loss maker is..............the Veyron.  ::)

I know the Smart Roadster cost MB a fortune in trying to keep water out of them ...... partly the reason they didn't make them for very long.

Smart fortwo is an odd choice, if you don't mind me asking, why one of them?

My local garage had all my cars for service, MOT etc. I bought my Laguna Estate from them, (which, was a really good car, before the anti French brigade chip in)
Really helpful....until they got a new garage manager. Never really cottoned to the guy.
Then, just after I bought the first Omega Estate, I took my van in for MOT and he asked if I still had the Laguna. I said 'No...I have bought an Omega Estate'. His answer was...'What do you want a heap of old sh*t like that for.'
Needless to say, I have not been near the place since, despite letters to say the cars are due this that or the other, and they had not seen me for a while.
Stuff, them... is that how to treat a loyal customer !!!!!!!!! >:(

icarsofti980 but had I known about them I'd have bought the iCarsoft MB II http://www.icarsoft.com/web/icarsoftus/allproducts/benzscantools/2015/201506/20150612145048eyzy9_1.html
which seems to sing & dance a bit more
