Ive seen plenty of rover 75's for sale but i know the petrol ones suffer from head gasket failure , upgraded head gasket seems to fix them . But the diesel 75 tourer looks a better option providing there are no hidden long term problems with them :-\ Anyone owned one or know of any problems to look out for and take it they dont suffer the HG trouble :-\

Get the V6 - The 1.8 is woeful, and not much better with a Blower strapped to it.
It's a big 'ole bus for a tiny engine.
-
How bout one of these.. Link (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MG-ZT-4-6-V8-260-SE-SOLD-/231906032556?hash=item35fead3bac:g:ggUAAOSwbwlXBpZC) Looks like this one has sold though.. They do look rather nice, especially with a V8 rumble.

There are a few V6 listed with suspect head gasket problems though . My mate had the 1.8 and he loaned me it for a few days ... it was so gutless and useless for overtaking :( His suffered the hg problem and went back 3 times before it was fixed for good .

Always liked the look of the 75.Diesels are a development of the BMW M47R engine which is what put me off buying one not long ago as me and BMW engines don't get on[I've blown two up in the past!]

Ford V8. Auto Only for the Rover, Manual only for the MG. :y

Ford Mustang V8 if I recall, Remember seeing one in action on Top Gear years ago.

If you 'really' want the soot chucker.
Available in two flavours - 115BHP and 130BHP. Simply just a re-map between the two. No hardware changes. *can* be mapped to 170BHP with a few simple hardware changes.
They have two fuel pumps. One in-tank, and one engine bay. Make sure BOTH work. (You'll hear them merrily buzzing away for 50 seconds when ignition is on).
They are Chain driven, so listen for the rattle of a stretched chain - Expensive to replace.
When the engine is running, pull the dip-stick.... NO oil should leave the dip-stick tube. If it does, walk away.
Make sure it has the Pinky-Coloured OAT coolant, not the older type.
Plan your journeys well ahead. They aren't very quick. :-\
I have to say though, both the 75 and ZT are lovely places to sit. I'd have one in top-spec.

Here is an absolutely brilliant thread. http://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=75282
The author is obviously a super-fan, so you may need to read between the lines a little, but still, an incredibly comprehensive report of the 75/ZT.

Its got to be the MG V8. Always lusted after one...
-
The V8 is quite a disappointing drive though, they are not hugely powerful although do have good torque, Jag fuel economy figures mind.
They seem reasonably well screwed together although the small front screen is a bit tiring on a drive and they are a bit like sitting in an old country pub

Yep, I've always thought they overdid the "Hyacinth Bucket" mock-tudor styling on the 75. ;D

It is only the basic 4.6 Ford engine. Which is no better in the Mustang or any of its other homes. The low rpm torque and the exhaust burble is a large part of the appeal.

Yes, a mate of mine hand the V8 MG and the best bit was the soundtrack without a doubt. :y
-
I read some of the forums that the Diseasels suffer from poor fuel economy (low 30's) with owners unable to bottom out the issues. Might want to check it out before you commit to one.

Can be made quite "usefull" with the addition of a charger :y

With Clarkson smoking a pipe if memory serves.
A bit of a 'sleeper' with a 4.6 litre lump of Detroit under the 'hood'. :y

Interesting . I shall have to test drive one .
-
The v8 is worth buying if only because it's rear wheel drive :y

I had the 2.5 190 V6 ZT, reasonable acceleration, but ate tyres. Big, fat bastards they were (185, I think), so came with tramlining built in. The cam belt was 90,000 miles, three belts to change, cost me c£700.

Skinny by modern standards.

Bought a v6 estate with MOT for £50 recently, lot's of nice noise but no real pull, sold it for £150 the next day. I do like the MG saloon jobbie for it's looks alone

have mg zt cdti 135 with 220 on clock no really issues with it,
lot of car for money tbh
on petrol v6 timing belts replacement is killer,
those are not nice to replace like on omega, and lots garages charge stupid money
I do a lot work on MG/rovers kv6 and cdti some of parts genuine only
fuel filter cost £40 for example and its inside tank

Can be chipped to 200 bhp too allegedly, not sure how that would end with a K,mine was lively, mid range grunt was good, made some supposedly quick cars think twice a few times :y
