I appreciate this CD is 16 years old, but it will play some CDs without complaint, but not others, either saying 'no CD' or CD ERROR. I cannot see how the good and bad ones differ. Does anyone know?

Pretty sure the autochanger is a specific version of the CDC2. Pretty sure there's a note about it in the guides to be aware of if you want to source a replacement.

Most likely a failing or dirty laser. CDC2 is quite robust if used with genuine CDs, unlike the later CDC3 which is just shite.

Sign of a laser on its way out - performance will be subject to temperature variation as well
We don`t have any more lasers for these

Years ago I bought a laser cleaning disc. Might that help?

Sure, you can waste your money on one, as all you will end up with is a nice and shiney polished (but still knackered) laser

Why not buy a Tunecast they work through the radio load you CD onto your phone or ipod problem solved. They cost about £30 but saves alot of hassle
