Title: Fortes or Redex
Post by: Markie on 22 July 2008, 13:20:51
Need to get the emmission down on the Jeep for re test.

Heard good things about both Redex Petrol X and Also Fortes Gas Treatment.

They both suggest they will assist in reducing emmissions.

Mate at work swears by Redex anyone here used either or both products  :-/

Im also going to use Fortes engine treatment when i service the jeep - Y`know the stuff add it to used oil, run it, flush it and renew the oil.

Again anyone any opinions ?

TIA

I personally find Forte to be MUCH better than redex. The secret is to get the doseage right!

I also personally do not recommend flushing any engine unless its a last resort. Although it takes longer, regular oil changes work btter.

The flushes tend to be pretty agressive and you end up with loads of crudd in the sump which can block the oil pickup strainer.

Thanks Mark, i`ll stick with Forte then.

I`ll also hold off the engine flush on the jeep, it was also being considored for the Vectra Sri. its got an oil pressure warning light coming on after 20minutes or so.

Maybe best do an oil change and take the sump off an attempt to clean it rather than make it more clogged then  :-/

Change the pressure switch first, and change the oil and filter, if light still comes on then i would say you have an oil pump problem >:(

We talking fuel or oil 'agents'

I think the original question may be fuel related as on about emissions? ? ?

Agreed.

The worst way to diagnose a faulty pressure switch is to:

get the crank reground
fail to understand the "It wasn't that bad" comment from the machine shop guy
rebuild engine
find oil pressure light still comes on
buy and fit v. cheap pressure switch
kickk self very hard
[/list]
Believe me!
