Title: Clamshell or cylindrical exhausts?
Post by: Greenbay packer on 07 June 2016, 19:13:02
Does anyone have any opinions as to whether the clamshell or oval cylindrical middle exhaust sections are better on a V6 estate?  Neither my present or previous Omegas have had the clamshell pattern fitted, but I seem to remember reading someone say on here that the clamshell design isbetter and lasts longer.  I'm currently looking at cat-back systems on fleabay from Eternalcar for £66, premium-car for £90, and ETS for £94 - Eternal and ETS are cylindrical, premium-car is clamshell.  All brands are recommended on here.  Thanks for your thoughts.

Thanks, tunnie, I like their price best too!  Does anyone have an opinion on the two different designs available, clamshell or cylinder?

The clamshell ones are mostly double skinned and tend to droop down less under the car if the rubbers are soft so will always get my vote  :y

Although the Eternal picture is cylindrical you will almost certainly get clamshells anyway ;)

Just finished fitting one of the eternal exhausts to my V6.

The centre boxes I removed where the "clamshell" type and the eternal ones supplied were also the "clamshell" type.

The eternal exhaust system is a good fit and looks well made (only time will tell).

The only problem I encountered when fitting the system was due to sheared off bolts at the cat to middle section joint. I had to drill all four of these out in situ. What a pain! >:(

Have clam shell style from Eternal fitted to my Elite for the past 6 months .Great fit and gets my vote.

The clam shells fit closer to the underside and are less of a hazard on speed bumps etc.Agree Eternal pictures show cylindrical but they will almost certainly be clam design supplied..double skinned to so decent quality for the price
