Well it appears that despite her sedate performance the old girl still has the oomph to get me into trouble.
On the way to BHX this morning, 0430, 2 flashes on th M42 - Bah!
Still, I knew I was speeding, what I didn't know is the cameras still got you when the variable signs were switched off. No complaints.
Never mind, hopefully as its a first offence I'll be offered the course! ::)

How much over the limit were you? If over the ton, they might smack you hard. Optimistically, they might be old film cameras and not have any film in them.....
Ron.

Oh, and at sparrow-fart in the small hours on a clear, dry motorway, what harm were you doing?
Ron.

I never do over the ton unless it's actual life or death. Last time was getting a relative to hospital in the wee hrs. I was doing high 80's per the speedo so probably 84-85 real world. Hence hoping for a course (15yrs driving with nothing on my record so far).

Oh plenty I'm sure, someone will tell me so anyway. ;).
At the end of the day it's illegal and that's that, driving for me is always a risk assessment, I typically travel faster than average in 60's and 70's, never in 30,40,50. Today I got caught, c'est la vie :y.

Always wondered about this myself, hence why I slow down maintain a legal speed under any overhead/gantry.
-
Yup. That was actually one of the reasons I posted, I figured it might catch folk out.
Also notable that this was one of the cameras mounted on a pole to the side of the carriageway, not the on-gantry gatso-type ones. Whether both sets are running at the same time I don't know.

Cheers for the warning. :y
I travel a lot in the early hours but tend to keep my speed down to avoid playing animal cricket, with my car being the bat. ::) ;D

It's the M25 gantry cameras that I'm always unsure of. :-\
A couple years ago I was heading northbound from the M3 and it was about 8pm in very light traffic, but the speed limit was 40mph! :-\
Most were just ignoring it or doing the speed up slow down thing, and there was no apparent reason for a 40 limit! ::)
I assumed someone or something had fallen asleep! ;D
-
Camera's on the reverse side of the gantry's to catch the number plate of dickhead motorbike riders who take the piss :)
Anyway, you drive a desmond so unless you had a very long run up, its doubtful you could break the national speed limit plus 10% anyway :P :D :D

Apparently the M25 and M42 are switched on 24/7 now, I saw something a while ago about it but I wasn`t sure if it was just scaremongering or not. The same article said more forces were going to follow suit.

The M62 ones are as well aren't they Mr Gav???

I don`t know if they are yet, certainly the ones on the east side of the M1 aren`t yet but I don`t think it will be long before all follow suit.
TBH I`ve not been on the west side of the M62 for a while now, the last time I was over was last July and we came over the top via Hebden Bridge, with a coffee stop at Mr Beanz`s place :y
-
Something we are all probably guilty of, I do try & obey the limits but invariably the speed increases, just one of those things we have to put up with.
-
The M62 ones were supposed to be on ages ago. Whether they are or not, they have the desired effect.

M4 east and west bound Reading-London etc...no probs here....going to run an F1 event in the near future on it, so it's open practice 24 hrs a day,7 days a week for team teewat ::).Virtually no chance of getting nicked either....no police interest in evidence at all.

Speaking for myself, I wouldn't go that far ;). However, I am usually vigilant, I suspect tiredness, plus a bit of being late is what did for me today.
-
I speed everywhere, only been caught once. No police about, so just watch out for cameras and you should be ok. ;D
-
Yup. I've dodged it for 15yrs and the best part of 350,000 miles. It was time.

That's an incentive for me to get better!!!

You'd never catch me in my 1.4 astra. You'd have to get your chopper up. OOOOOOO ;D

The Phlegmy Green Astra would show up nicely on the infrared camera! :y

Well certainly not on foot, they'd probably have to deploy the bicycle units to keep pace with that monster!
