Just took the old car around the block a mile or so and thought i'll check the air con which has never worked as i never really used it.Anyway to the point lifted the bonnet and front fans not working but i also noted that the heating pipes which pass by the expansion bottle were still cool, the climate control was off on the drive and i set it to LO as i parked up when set to Hi it started to warm up straight away.Apart from the fans working or not working is this correct? Why i ask is that my other Omega has or had a HBV problem so i changed it but with climate control OFF those same heating pipes start to get warm and when set to LO they are still getting hot with time and water is dripping from the evaporator drain pipes.Could it be a problem with the climate control vacuum in some way?
-
With ECO on stops the engine fans, stops the drip and the heating inside just got a lot warmer!!

The Aircon in this vehicle is working correctly :y
-
Matrix pipes still cool on one and not the other under same conditions?
-
Aircon and heater matrix are connected by air and electricity... Heater not working regardless of setting is either a failed Hbv(vacuum issue, not coolant) or a blocked matrix...
If this is the car with idle issues, I would be looking at a vac leak in the heater vacuum system.

Ignore the last bit... different person/car altogether :-[

Hi let me explain again, after driving around with the heating off or on LO the pipe off the HBV that passes by the coolent expansion bottle is not warm on HI the heating works fine. But those same pipes on the other car get hot whether off or on LO!! So different in operation.Does the HBV let hot water through if the climate control is OFF or on LO ?
-
You mean the pipes that run to/from the pump below the expansion tank?
-
Yes
-
On the car with hot pipes does unplugging that pump make any difference?
Note, it should only run if climate panel is activated with engine off, as per manual.
If not, suspect either a vac issue with the hbv control, or an internally failed hbv... one of them might also be plumbed in wrong, but don't have one to hand to cross check for you :-\

Its a brand new HBV and GM! The one previous behaved the same before it gave up! With aircon on LO quite a lot of drips from evaporator drains, maybe because heater matrix is clashing with aircon. With aircon off or climate to HI no drip and much hotter inside!!

Drip is normal aircon operation. On this car it works.
Heating/coolant flow is a separate thing altogether.
If hbv is new then the plumbing on one of the cars is wrong, but without a third, known correct car for comparison there's no way to tell from here.

Have just checked differences cold pipe car still cold after short run and noticed small pipe from expansion bottle to Throttle is warm/getting hot.Hot pipe car removed electrical connection and HBV vacuum pipe with climate off pipes getting HOT but small pipe to throttle cold!!
-
Keep the vacuum pipe connected.
That throttle coolant pipe should have coolant running through it, so if upto temperature it should have heat in it... that said, I have never checked it for temperature, so it could be that the air through the throttle bodies is enough to cool it down, although temperature is currently +17° not -17° so throttle icing that it's there to prevent shouldn't be a problem anyways :-\
-
Have just read another thread and this is what it said.....you are correct no vacuum = heat. no vacuum to the hbv could be faulty solenoid.(common problem) little brown thing behind glovebox bolted to heater box. there are 2. other one with black/blue pipe opens closes recirc flap. they are interchangeable. swop them see what you get
-
Well had glovebox off and checked solenoid and its working, then checked suction at HBV which there was, so i guess the new HBV isn't closing or sealing properly. Well at least its not leaking,i did check it before fitting but how important is it if i have heat inside and it doesn't leak? It may clash with aircon if used?

Again...
Airconditioning and the heater are two separate systems controlled by a single, easy to use, control panel. Together they form the climate control system ;)
Still not sure what the problem is that you have, beyond the fact that of two cars, only one has working airconditioning :-\
-
It looks like the HBV is permanently open!!

Regardless of Eco on/off (ie aircon off/on), is the cabin air hot when set to Hi, and cooler (cold with aircon on) when set to Lo?
If yes to both, it's working as it should.
-
It gets a lot hotter when set to ECO!
-
It gets a lot hotter when set to ECO!
Because the ambient temperature is about 20° and you've turned the airconditioning off ::)
Is it hotter than when set to Hi?
-
No
-
No
Then it's all working as it should ;)
Now you just need to sort out what's wrong with the other car...
Be useful to know what ages both cars are... all face-lift Omegas have dual zone climate control, but this was only fitted to Elite models on prefacelift cars, most of the rest have aiconditioning and manually controlled heater systems. If differing ages/specs, then it might behave differently...
-
Both 2001 one an elite other cdx, both 2.6.The other car i've had for 10 years and apart from ac not working its never really had a problem. The new elite had the HBV problem and i've never driven it on the road yet but soon i hope! I think the new HBV isn't working correctly and is letting hot water through all the time but if it doesn't cause a problem then that's fine and i've got heating.I'm sure if one of the members drives this time of the year with the heating off then feeling the pipes by the expansion bottle then if hot or cold i would know the correct answer. But whether its a problem is another matter as the one with cold pipes is just fine i'm sure
