Title: In a bit of a quandry.....
Post by: minifreek on 20 June 2016, 21:59:12
Have rebuilt the V6 in my Omega.... but can't for the life of me remember if Iv got the correct pulleys timed with the correct cams...

Before I turn the key, and see if it fires up.....

Is it the cam timing pulleys are marked 1 2 and 3 4...?

Giving that 1 is bank 1 nearest bank to offside, then in order, 2 is next then 3 then 4 being nearest to nearside....?

Cam 1 should be on mark of 1, bank 2 on mark of 2.....? they are offset...

I think theyre timed correctly as I spun the engine over by hand twice and the marks all came back to the correct resting position on the timing marks.... also using the proper locking tool, the back to back C tool that lines up the cam marks was spot on with both sets of cams.... so it must be correct....?

I dunno if Im overthinking this with it getting a bit late now, I just dont want to turn the key and knacker a couple of valves coz theyve smashed into the pistons.... if that happens I'll be either looking for another engine or just getting meself another car....

Looks about right.

Bank 1
Cam 1 nearest coolant bottle - align  mark 1 on the pulley with the notch on the spectacle tool
Cam 2 nearer the V - use mark 2

Bank 2
cam 3 nearer the V - use mark 3
cam 4 nearest the battery - use mark 4

I dont have a Haynes...

Anyhoo, first thing this morning after brekky, I stripped the engine down again and took a look at how the cams was sitting.... I only went and installed them correctly LOL

But I did find the right hand tensioner was loose.... could have been a ruddy disaster, but no drama... thankfully...

So everything fine and happy :y
