Hi all, was checking out some pages online and have seen a hack that can be done to the cdc unit wiring of this HU, that allows you to add a 3.5mm jack and therefore an mp3 player or similar. Before I go hacking into my unit and regretting this, can anyone tell me if they have done this, is it as simple as the guide on club-opel.com and what is the quality of the sound?
Many thanks

Yes a few of us have done the modification and it works well. The only reason a guide hasn't been posted on here is because dissecting the ribbon cable and soldering tails from it is quite a delicate operation and really requires a little bit of soldering experience, not a problem I you are confident enough but not advised if you've never used a soldering iron for such work.

Thanks for the reply. I'm confident enough with a soldering iron so don't mind doing the work. If I follow the guide and solder the five wires over to the 3.5mm jack and make a 74min blank cd, is that all that needs to be done or is there any other components needed?

I'm actually looking at the pocket DAB radio in argos to connect into the stereo, really missing Planet Rock!

You wont need a blank cd, just remove the cartridge and the CDC will be silent but the source will be the MP3 / Line in device. If you never want to use the CDC again you could just connect the L, R and 0v to the HU to the socket, if you want the option of the CDC you will need to source a switched 3.5mm socket or wire a DPDT switch to enable you to select the source.

Top man VXL V6, trip to Maplins for some bits, that's this weeks job sorted!

I see maplin do a 3.5mm jack that has split contacts, this would mean i won't need a separate switch.

That'll do the trick by the sound of it :y
