She works in a large primary school in Sheffield and a large number of her pupils are Muslim, Slovak Roma and other minorities. She said they were genuinely upset yesterday and couldn't settle to their lessons. They kept seeking reassurance from staff that they weren't about to be sent packing, some of them in tears.
These are 6-10 year olds and the fear, to them, must have been very real.

My standard response to problems with kids is " I blame it on the parents". It works for most issues.
In this case I wonder if their parents knew they were concerned and had explained the situation to their kids.
It reminds me of the hysteria amongst expats abroad. I still meet people who think they will have to go back to Britain despite all the info out there.

The cash cow has been, put out of it's misery,
Das Reich is now crapping it's self thinking who's next, because if more decided to leave, Germany, will be left holding the baby, O the French will do as merkal tells them, this is about the worry of the collapse of the eu.

Heard of a few poles getting abuse while they were working locally which is a bit sad , ironic thing is the scrotes giving it were probably doleites

I have a Muslim friend who is a UK citizen yet a group of people in West London decided to shout abuse at her and her 8 year old child, telling her to "disappear off to her own country" (in rather more spiteful words). It upset her so much she has been scared to go out today :'(
I'm embarrassed to be a citizen of this country at the moment :'(

Its shit when kids are in pain or get upset and cry.
In fact, seeing kids frightened and upset is one of the two or three things in life that either turns me into a blubbing mess OR a complete friggin psychopath who wants to dismember people but ask yourself this question..........
What have the parents been telling them to be so frightened ?
Also if it is something that they have picked up in the playground, why haven't there parents sat them down and explained to them that there is no danger ;)
If the parents don't speak English which lets be honest here is a BIG possibility, why didn't they seek reassurances from the many translators that local councils are forced to employ and pay out of the public purse ?
Maybe just maybe these parents are using there own kids as a propaganda tool here ;)

Why stick a label on her ?
It would be better if your friend described herself or people described her as a women with a 8 year old kid who was abused by a bunch of retarded oppswits who gobbed off at her because of the colour of her skin and she just happened to follow the Islamic faith ;)
Seriously, if she is scared, she needs to grow a pair and carry on regardless because one thing a bullying gobshite cant handle is when he or she dishes out the abuse and the target of that abuse just laughs and carries on regardless :y
In life, what goes around, comes around and scum like that tend to get it back in one way or another, sooner rather then later :y

The label wasn't aimed at her specifically, but I see what you mean ;)
It was more of an example.
The trouble is, when she is on her own (like she was) it is scary and terrifying for her. As I have said to my friends who come under attack (and even people in the street) I will defend their right to their own beliefs, whatever they are, as long as they don't try to force them on me :y And that goes for Christians too ;)

Because with one adjective he saved probably a paragraph of necessary exposition.

There have always been a small minority of bigots in this (and every other) country, and always will be. Its best to ignore them, unless of course they actually cause physical harm to people.

Indeed... The trouble is that these scumbags think that the referendum result gives them the right to spout their xenophobic shit in public without any consequence.
-
The bitterness of the referendum has created much bad feeling all round. We now need to put it behind and get back to normal.
Personally, I don't think it will make a tremendous difference to net immigration as we are creating jobs that need filling and Europe has high unemployment that is unlikely to get much better. All we can hope for is that unfilled jobs are matched much better to candidates to stop the semi-skilled and unskilled trend to the minimum wage and the dark side of exploitation at well below the minimum wage (legally if self-employed) is reduced.
We have a much better record than most of Europe on the integration of minorities, which is actually in our interests, so we have a cohesive, tolerant society. France and some of the Paris suburbs show what happens if you exclude people with their dangerous no-go ghettos, high crime rates and rising terrorist attacks.

What? You must live in suburbia somewhere. It's not at all like that in the towns and cities I know.
-
I don't think we're much better or worse than any other nationality when it comes to racism, bigotry and intolerance to be honest.
Look at the problems they have in the US, France as Rods points out seems to regularly erupt into racial violence, South Africa which has seen high immigration from Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Malawi and Somalia, has had terrible problems with immigrants getting murdered and attacked. Often on mass. :o
When I lived in Sydney there was a very pleasant fellow who use to greet me every day at work with " Morning ya pommie c@#t! " I used to just laugh at him as I knew he was just a prick trying get a rise out of me. ::) (and he was built like a brick shithouse!) but it was wearing all the same. :(
It's just an unpleasant side of human nature at the end of the day sadly, and not just a preserve of the Brits. :(
-
It's called human nature. We unite against a different colour skin, a different religion, a different football team, a different town or city, etc.
If three people were marooned on an island, two would soon be picking on one.

Seriously, you wanna watch that, Jason. Mate of mine was off for 18 months with a bad back. His back improved but he ended up at 21 stone and had to take a further 9 months off and be retrained when he went back. He was/is a firefighter.

I'll be ok, I know what it is that's doing it. Its the beer & wine. I don't normally drink as much as I am doing at present (Obviously due to the work I do) but because I've not been driving for best part of 3 months I've had more than just a tipple. Soon as I stop & am able to use my treadmill again I'll return to just bein a fat git :D

Good. I'd hate to think I'd permanently lost the chance to get a chase round south Manchester off yer. ;D

I can understand that :(
Trouble is, these scumbags thrive on fear >:(
Shame the lasses other half or the kids dad wasn't around to dish out a bit of retribution (British style)
Cant fault you there bud :y :y
I love it when god bothers' bang on my door ;D
Such fun to be had :D :D
-
All God botherers are brainwashed idiots IMHO.....
If someone has a religion, I wont berate them for it, I wont tell them they are idiotic for believing in what they believe but if they try to preach to me, I wont hold back on my beliefs :)
It is a shame that some fools decide to start to shout abuse at someone for being of a certain faith, but TBH its only to be expected from the braindead bullying bigots that would be shouting the abuse....

Once after a very good afternoon / evening out late august time, a few of us came back to ours and we set up a projector c/w white sheet on a wall outside so we could sit outside with a few beers and play Life Of Brian to the lovely people across the road who are Jehovah's Witnesses ::) ::)
These are the same people who I sent a Christmas card too 8 months before :-[

Mate of mine has said there's 'reports of racist abuse' so he's suggesting him and his missus might have to move to her home country.
This damned EU Referendum, because there was no racism in the country at all before last week. Sigh.
-
The whole thing has been silly, you see I have a view that when such decisions are offered to Jo Public that no politicians or parties should be allowed to take sides.
It should be a leaflet explaining the facts, maybe a few programs and then nothing else that way we remove the spin, lies and bull from the equation.
I genuinely know two people who are absolutely convinced that every penny is being spent on the NHS and another who was told that the EU would shut our preserved railways and stop all steam train running.
-
That's what aggrieves me the most. We, none of us, received a single fact, one way or the other. Whatever 'fact' was banded around by the one side was rubbishes or refuted, or contradicted by the other as bunk or lies.
As you say, a single leaflet with the physical actual differences, no 'opinion', no spin, as you say. That would have been nice.
-

The only facts was that if we stayed in, we would have ended up giving even more control of our democracy to a bunch of unaccountable faces who at the end of the day don't give a toss about the United Kingdom.
You only have to listen to some of the speeches in euro land yesterday morning to see the real contempt these oppsers have for the United Kingdom and the English especially.
You either shut your mouth and do as you are told of you are a trouble causer and the enemy >:(
Toys out of pram doesn't even scratch the surface this time >:(
As for the trade, when all the face pulling, "my dads bigger then your dad" shite, general bullshit about the end of the world dies down, its in nobodies interest to block trade, hold back security intelligence ect. Especially when it will hurt them more then it will hurt us ;)
Merkal understands this and lets be honest here, SHE runs the EU ;)
The problem is that the British public are as a whole a bunch of gullible retards who have been wrapped up in cotton wool by the nanny state for 40 years and haven't got a clue about the real word.
If the government of the day employed Justin Bieber to tell the youth of today that the moon was made of green cheese and if he rammed it down there throats enough, they would oppsing believe it ::) ;D
Because of this, as soon as one side starts the bullshit, the other side are forced to out do them in the bullshit stakes or they get left behind >:(
That sadly is the state we as a group of nations are in :'( :'(
