Never. I know how to do it, and have two hammers that have not yet let me down.

I find British 'car repair' shows to be fairly realistic and have every-day situations.
Normal (more or less) cars, and normal budgets.
Watching them, a person can learn something.

On the other hands, have you seen american car repair shows?

I watch.. basically all of them - English and American.. they cover a wide range from somewhat informative to pure 'entertainment'; even the informative ones tend to be Hollywooded up though.

I remember one episode of a show I considered technically informative where an owner wanted a soft-top hood fitting to his Morgan (an old Morgan, at that).

They banged on about parts not being available (yet I can guarantee you could phone Morgan and they'd make one from patterns they still hold) and then they decided they would dremel reliefs in the top edge of the windscreen glass to allow for longer retaining screws on the hood bows (also not necessary).  The glass shattered and they exclaimed their abject horror that some bodge merchant had replaced the windscreen with toughened glass in the past..

..except we all know that toughened glass windscreens were the norm once upon a time..

But have you noticed, unless the car has needed engine work....he never shows that he's done a basic service on the engine....would you buy a car from that pair  :-\ :D

Pays too much for them, spends too much on them, apparently gets some mug to pay far more than they are worth.
Its still better than most of the other shite on TV though.  ;D

Sometimes looks like he's doing a decent job but they always fit new parts with rusty knackered fixings, they have never shown to me any attention to detail.
