Hi All
I have a 2001 51 plate 3.2 Elite saloon which has been behaving fine until the last couple of days the sat nav has been showing a problem its lost I live in Bromley Kent and the Satnav thinks it's in Sutton Coalfield hence no sat nav its using a proper disc and has worked fine up till this happened anyone have any idea what its done
If it helps the disc ejects fine. Sat nav accepts destinations can still see previous and stored destinations it just says in the case of my home that I'm 79miles away when I'm
sitting on my drive way. :'(
and to top it all I'm about to need it as I'm off across the country in two weeks time
Help!!
Cheers

If you can put in your destination to get there..then instead of pressing home on your return, cant you just put in your post code to get you back home :-\
-
Thanks for the reply I wish it was that easy the sat nav thinks its in Sutton Coalfield as a current location so all direction are 79miles out even when I'm at home on the drive
it still thinks it up North daft thing is I have never been there but thanks for the response
Seems the Miggy is making another try at denting the wallet

Sounds to me like its not getting the correct signal, or strength of signal.
I'm no expert on the Omega SatNav setup, but I would say its the GPS arial, or something between that and the unit, that's at fault.
Good luck!
-
Sounds like aerial has failed - should be a menu on there somewhere to show how many sats you are receiving - my guess is zero

Is the speedo working?
What is the status of GPS working in top right?
-
Hi Guys
Thanks Dave DND The Boy and RossPhim I think this is heading in the right direction the speedo is fine but the GPS indicator top right of screen is in red I think that may be the problem
The unit still thinks its in the north of England but when the map display is up the cursor still moves over the map but all the fine detail is missing
I'm not sure how to check for sat reception I will dive back into the manuals and see what I can find
I will report back if I find out anything

The fact "GPS" is red means you have insufficient/no GPS reception. Does it ever go Yellow or Green?
If not, have you have the stereo out recently?
-
Yep, sounds like no GPS signal at the head unit.
-
Can you not reset all and start again with your home address being what it is?
-
Hi
I Have not seen the icon go green of late and yes the head unit has been out recently [have I done a wally and missed a connection] I replaced the climate control panel
I don't think I missed any connection at the rear of the head unit

This, it's lost track of your location

May well have done or the cable's a bit iffy and needs a wiggle, try plugging in/unplugging and plugging back in

No, with no GPS, it wont know where it is so it wont have a start point, the fact that is still working but is miles out is because the on board giro's and sensors are doing there best to keep up with a lost GPS signal.,

Sounds like you may have disturbed the GPS Aerial Plug at the back of the HU.
In Sat Nav mode, press buttons Main + Info buttons together, it should show all the GPS Sat Stations picked up and there Signal Strength readings (may take up to 15 mins to appear if youve just switched on the HU from cold).
-
Pull radio out of cage, look in cage, top right should be a small coax plug (in addition to main radio one) - check its there, and not distorted.
-
Hi All
Thanks for all the replies head unit is now out [car won skinned knuckles again] next stage getting the cage out so I can check the two aerials are seated properly
I did check the nav info and its only picking up one signal hence its lost
I will let you know how it ends up

You can see if nav plug not fully seated, of if cage distorted without removing cage itself ;)

Hi All
many thanks to all who advised fortunately it was the connection at the back of the cage I have now got a far better signal than I have ever had the display is crystal clear why that has changed I don't know but it is great. As always will an Omega there is a down side I now have to find a new cage for the unit as who ever had had it before had buggered the back plate of the cage which was part of my problem may the gods protect me from the Main Dealers
Thanks
