Title: What's up with this 3.2
Post by: JamesV6CDX on 24 July 2008, 20:19:44
Looking for opinions - considering a cheeky last minute snipe if it's an easy fix.. ;D

I'd have it if I could afford it  ;D

without knowing the trouble codes it could be anything.

However the seller does seem to be pretty up front so i would say that the diagnosis is not a million miles away from the reality, shame as i have just sold my DBW plenium as well  :-/

I am actually wondering if it's a fault with the DBW unit...

They plugged the machine in and they couldn't be more helpful than that?  I suppose it could be the throttle body, but could be bad connection.  They should have at least tried to run TB adaptation.

I don't think RAC/AA have real tech 2's. When mine died a year ago, it would start but not rev much, max speed about 15mph. Not having access to a Tech 2, I had to get it diagonosed by Evans Halshaw who said it was the ECU and wanted £650. (Got a ECU/Keyreader from a scrappy for £45). However there still is a suspicion that it was just the keyreader not liking the key chip, and triggering some sort of anti theft routine.

Happy sniping !

Ken

Depending on what the reserve is it's definitely worth a snipe !!!!!

You're not allowed to battenburg it James !!!!  ;)

It's either the ECM, the TB, the throttle pedal, or the wiring - with an outside chance of the ABS computer or clocks.  I know that doesn't sound helpful, but if you have access to a Tech2 and spare TB/pedal then you can get pretty far with the diagnosis in 30 minutes or less.

if it was a 2.2 i would have said cam sensor.

Mine did the same thing (minus TC light)

Started, but idle was tad high, press pedal nothing.

Is it worth £500?

I think he's waiting on me to say yes or no before he sells it so I need to be quick.! Shall I bite his hand off?

How much will it cost to tax it now?

I'd be tempted by this if you aren't James... Just a bit far away from me otherwise I'd go for it!!

At the end of the day you could strip it and make the £500 back with very little effort!!  :y :y :y

I suspect its £185 for 12 months as the retrospective bit is only coming in next year.  Worth confirming though.

Its worth it - take it, Tax is high next year, but James when was the last time you kept a car 12 months.

And if you do it means its worth it and you would be happy to tax it.

At least go check it out, i`d take it.

What do you think is up with it Mark?

Title: Re: What's up with this 3.2

Its going to be a basic sensor fault I would expect. Cant see it being throttle body or pedal as they are twin resistor setups so flag codes but still operate although I guess the motor could have died but, that would be a first and if so why does it idle ok?.

I have a suspicion that these might run with a faulty crank sensor but, give a similar symptom.

Either way, it does not at first glance sudgest anything major.
