Title: 2.2 petrol Auto Estate 2001 misfire on starting think its fuel?
Post by: Paul Appy on 01 August 2016, 21:50:37
When cold starting, it starts first time, pops and splutters then stops, 2nd turn of key, backfires into air box seems to run on couple of cylinders sometimes ,  runs longer than the first time but sometimes stops, if it doesn't stop it then runs perfect, if it stops it starts first time & runs perfect.
General driving seems lack of power, feels like fuel--footdown--nothing--then ease off power comes in? Not had it long, got it to take grandson camping. (have had a Omega 2.6 for 2+ years)

Changed fuel filter, cleaned and gaped plugs, washed coil pack rubbers in petrol-seems a little better, found that if I wait a while after turning ignition on (assuming fuel pump runs?)it doesn't backfire & runs better--could be coincidence?

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance Paul

Do the pedal trick with the car in 'D'

Edit....How much fuel is in the tank ?

Sorry I missed the link--Thanks  ::)
May try it later, getting it on road Friday, will give it a good run then call at my mates to use his diagnostic tester see what codes are showing up.

He cleared all the fault codes last week , so anything new now gives me big clue, don't want to mess up the codes in it by trying to extract info myself at moment, but its nice to know how thanks again.

He recons that some cars use the temp. sensor to regulate fuel, I did notice that the engine
temp only reached 80 degrees--any comments?

Not many 2.2s respond to the pedal trick, so likely you will need a code reader.

Is it losing coolant at all?

No apparent coolant loss

Just tried it now, after being stood all night, waited 5 seconds  after I turned ignition on- started first time-no spluttering or popping -kept running, I still think its something to do with fuel, how dose cold starting work?, is fuel pump in tank?-internal filter?--is there a non-return valve on fuel feed?

You mention getting it back on the road... how long has it been laid up for? Might simply be 'cobwebs'...

They do when you take it out of "P" and put it in "D"
