Title: Front Damage and insurance question
Post by: artsoul_no1 on 06 August 2016, 14:33:37
Hi all

Just smashed front of the car at a turning, didn't see the other car and clipped side of his car and nearside front wing of mine

Bumper + fog lights, behind bumper support bar, nearside light, both under headlight trims, nearside wing and inner wing are damaged.

Bars behind bumper support attaches to are both bent as in pictures can these be straightened/replaced or is this the actual car chassis.

If it can be repaired what would be a ball park figure for getting all these bits

The only time i have been sorry the car isn't a rare silver model paint code is Z155 graphite grey so if it can be repaired would be nice but probably unlikely to get the same colour parts

Thanks for any advice also appreciate any advice on handling the insurance company re car value (PS I know it is virtually worthless but you know what i mean)

many thanks

Dave

Pretty much anything can be fixed and tbh, it doesn't look too bad to me  :-\

Just make a list up and wait for the next car to be broken up on here and pop around with spanners and wallet  :y
If the colours don't match, a body shop will paint them up very reasonably while the parts are off the car  ;)
But before you make any decision, remove that battered front wing and check the chassis first and get back to us  :y

Car is a t/loss cat C.

Looks to be superficial damage but reps will came to more than the value of the car.

If you are going through the insurance try for a CIL (cash in lue) for the repairs and that way it will be kept off the t/loss register. Most insurers won't want to do this straight off but may go down the CIL route if you push them. Then get some second hand bits and get it painted at your friendly bodyshop.

Or let them write it off and keep the salvage.....but it will cost you for the salvage and it will go on the register.

An insurance claim will write it off, just like any other Omega

But, it is only bolt on panels.

I have a good N/S headlight that is yours for a tenner. That would enable you to beat the wing straight enough to use, which I would expect to do in less time than it would take to replace with another in a different colour.

The bumper brackets bolt on, and therefore not worth messing about with. You need to source a bumper; get them and the few other fittings with that.

With a bumper of the correct colour, you could make it look mostly respectable in a couple of hours.

New crash bar and brackets, fresh bumper and job done... Wing is bolt on...

All in all straightforward, time required is to do with alignment rather than the actual replacing of bits :y

Nice afternoons work :y
