Title: good news / bad news
Post by: raywilb on 06 August 2016, 15:25:58
I have finally managed to get my 2.2 dth running after  head off & timing chain renewed & it s running as sweet as the proverbial nut. BUT. it looks as if I have managed to do what MarkDTM warned me of. it looks as if I have destroyed the head gasket trying to squeeze the timing cover on. I can visually see water coming from above the water pump where the h/g is    :'( :'(.  also I have found my torque wrench is fubbared, so I may have had an issue there. it appears to be over tightening.

I am ready to take the head off again & my initial observation is I must of damaged the gasket as there is lots of sludge, also when I took the crank sensor out to enable me to lock the crank there was lots of sludge came out. how will I get rid of the sludge as it will be places I cant manually remove it.   later on today I am picking up a new torque wrench, so I should get an accurate reading,& tomorrow gasket etc. all this has been a learning exercise.,  but will be back on the road very soon.

as I suspected a part of the h/g was trapped behind the timing chain cover.

Tough Ray, but at least you've identified the problem :y
