I like it, guessing the letters would need to be joined up though

My car is factory debadged, so I wouldnt want one, but like it  :y

yeah your right about the letters!! I got a feeling the lettering might be too small to do it without it looking silly!!

well the design looks good on a tshirt, guessing it would be similar

Post by: richardirv on 02 July 2008, 15:31:51
yeah but it would have to be quite small to match the vauxhall badges hence the actual omegaowners letters ending up even smaller!

I like the idea of a badge, but agree regards the writing.

I would like one as a fridge magnet as daft as it sounds.  Then I have the choice of where I stick it.  One option is then to put some sticky back plastic on it (the back, over the magnet) then stick it on the boot where my Vauxhall badge is.

Annother idea is an oval version, like the type made with the plasticraft kits and stuck on with double sided tape.  All it would take is someone to make a mould (reversed) on a CNC router, raised letters that can be painted with chrome paint (chrome silver).

Just a thought.

Interesting, good idea's, not quite sure what you mean by oval! It might be me being stupid, do you have an example?

Was done very quickly with the 1st image, I would have prefered to make the oval bigger.

There are firms that do self-adhesive "buttons" that are designed to go on computors as company logos. Now these are mostly about 1" square, but are basically a picture with a vinyl coating over the top. I don't know if they do different sizes, or how "weather-proof" they would be .... but its possibly a thought ??

A google has found this one ....

http://www.abalabels.co.uk/vinyl_stickers_uk.htm

but I don't know anything about art/artwork/pricing ....   :(

I enquired about some white dials for my 2.0 from a company in Wales.

SWMBO has just had a little play with the designs that were posted here and has come up with the oval which is 8cm x 3 cm.

If it's ok with every one i'll email the company and get a quote for the the plaque.

This would be made in Brushed aliminium.

For those that are intrested, When I 1st spoke to the company it was for a set of white dials,(NOT the crap sticky ones on fleabay), coated aluminium ones, at the time they didn't have the template for them, Vectra Astra and Corsa, now problem, Miggy nooo, so I took mine apart and scanned them. They now have made a prototype set of dials. and i'm waiting for an email regarding the cost.

I will keep you all informed as i find out more. :y :y :y :y

On a completely personal basis, its not something that I would be rushing out to buy, but, that said, to paraphrase the Kevin Costner film - build it and they will come....

perhaps they will, perhaps they wont.....

If you just want to approach the company on a personal level and enquire about costs, you don't need the approval of anyone here to do that :y

We were talking about it on sunday at the meet and JueV6 is in the process of getting some prices and infomation from http://www.metal-monkey.co.uk/acatalog/Your_ID.html

Nothing set in stone but we are gonna need to find out how many people are interested. JueV6 is hopefully going to get an image from this company to give us a proper idea of what it could look like, hopefully in the near future.

If the admin team have any concerns or input to this project please let us know.

Cheers

Rich

Nice one Julian, once we get a good idea of what it will be like, could maybe set up a poll to find out the number of people who are interested, unless there is a better way!

Ok here is the low down. Spoke to them 5 mins ago. They are going to send me some sample so at least I can see the quality. They are un willing to put a OOF badge as a sample incase I/We don't order any more. (Very unlikely). As soon as the samples arrive, I'll take a pic and try to describe (or SWMBOwithattitude will) and we'll then put the poll up to see the response. and also what type of finish people prefer. :y

The people At the Sunday's York/Linc's meet saw the email and know what prices  involved, as do Admin.

Once I get the samples I will liaise with Admin as to how to go about the funding, but from the emails I would think that a minimum order
is 30 badges and depending on the finish and Metal Thickness, I would think  that they would be priced around £6.99.

I think it's a cracking idea. I've already got a blank grille & Irmy badge as many Vx's have but the Omega badge would be more individual, set us apart so to speak. Not for everyone but i like mild mods (making the car your own) 8-)

personally not keen to stick things on paint work as it discolours at different rates and looks naff after a while BUT if it matched the look of the vauxhall lettering already on the car i think that would be subtle enough for me.
Trouble is i find that mentioning your a member of an owners 'club' to people tends to bring comments of "sad" "nerdy" etc. I have to educate them and as to the quality of this forum and the issues with dealers being probably the main reason the forum exists(?).
if youve visited other similar sites you will realise how lucky we are on here. So, the reason i mention this is i feel a little reluctant to buy an item that would be putting me and my car in that 'nerdy' bracket, and for that reason i wonder how many people would actually buy it and
possibly leave the kind pearson who organised the hole thing out of pocket and feeling bit let down. ( i would sugest getting money up front, and then, once you have enough orders for a production run, place the order)

To me its a bit of catch 22 as i feel this place is a wonderfull thing, and want to promote it, but how to do it by avoiding the nerdy perception
that people tend to associate with these things?  :-/
