Would you believe me If I told you  I've 'seen the light' and bought a nice sensible derv drinker. A car so terminally dull  even STMO and Mr Tunnie would approve?

An Audi is too numb to drive......no passion.

This should do it.

Ultimate black.

825W Meridan sound system.

20 inch Draco alloy wheels.

Pictures of my "frugal" new shopping car. These pictures are from Harwood Jaguar Basingstoke, where I bought the car. Wasn't sure about the red seats, but I do like them now. Car comes with something called a Jaguar Black Pack.

I should hope nit, as your opening post mentioned filling the tank with petrol.  :o ;D
Nice looking car, but I still prefer the old XJ shape.

It does look like a lovely car .. and I'd very much like someone to give me an F-Type, but this is the ideal black-on-black-on-black Jag for me:

Harwoods were offering a £5000 reduction on this, and others, presumably because the new 66 registration is due on 1st September.

So I thought 'what the hell' :y

Comes with a 2 year approved warranty. I imagine there are plenty of 'exclusions' but hopefully it is worth slightly more than the paper it is written on should I need to make a claim.

FJSH last serviced 400 miles ago. 8 speed auto box is nice and smooth and the car is quick enough to keep up with the general flow of traffic. :)

It is very well made. It is also very civilised. The leather is soft and classy.

The engine has a certain 'Detroit' way about it but the rest of the car is very calming.

Wonderful sound system with 10 CD hard drive.

Quite quick, too. :)

Bastard to clean. :-\

XF was on list of possible replacements, and I even managed to take an extended 6hr test drive in a 3l NA petrol one :)

Not sure I could live with the seats in the example I drove though.

Also, a step down from the Omega in cabin and boot space, and so much had to be done via flicking through pages on the touchscreen rather than a simple button.  Even the most basic stuff like seat heaters.

Its not entirely crossed off the list yet, as its the closest I've been to finding a successor, but the slight disappointment has made me want to keep the old Omega going.

No temperature gauge. :-\  Why not?

How does the driver know when it's warm enough to give it some welly?

How can the driver tell if the car is running too cool (possible thermostat failure)?

Post by: STEMO on 26 August 2016, 21:04:39
Modern cars that do have a temperature gauge don't tell you much anyway. Of course you'll know when it's up to normal running temp but, as long as it's within a specified range, the ecu will just keep the gauge sitting smack in the middle.

Yep. One of the things that used to knark me off about the XF.  The xj has one. Just cost cutting. Like having no hardkey buttons and over reliance on the touchscreen.

That and the fact it doesn't have a coin holder, a cassette player, a FAX PORT!!, a torch in the glovebox, and loads of other skookum as frig shiz that 90s cars have  ;D

Nice wheels mate, and the V8 is the way to go.  I've certainly enjoyed my V8 XJ, and no issues to date (altho like you I still have some Jag warranty left!).  Servicing costs at my local dealer very reasonable too.

Enjoy yours and ignore any "nit picking" comments - as someone said when I posted details of mine "its only jealousy".

The gear selector is a rotary knob that rises out of the console when the ignition is turned on. It's a gimmick, but fun. At least Jaguar retained a manual park release in case of electrical faults, unlike BMW. The same applies to the electric handbrake.

There is no Mondeo in an XF; the basic platform is shared with a Lincoln that we didn't get, although the Coop funeral directors use stretched ones as limousines.

No, trust me, even when you take in the previous gen XF S worth 17k they look at it like it's something you trod in, offer you 12k for it and STILL wan't to make their 4k on the one they want to sell you; that some poor mug was similarly robbed of the week before.  They do squirm a bit though when you point out that their arguements for justifying the high approved used price don't correlate to their ridiculous px offer.  It can't be both now can it tosswad!  ::)

True.

2012 year model was updated though so not as 'clunky' as older cars. Not too bad at all, in fact.

As for buying derv ........I suggest you have been spending too much time with that Tunnie chappie. ;)

I have disabled the ridiculous start /stop ECO mode which is so out of place, and too slow to react. :)
