If he is still about....
Are there any Single DIN head units which support Apple Car Play? All ones I can find are double din. :-\

WTF is Apple Car Play ?
Sorry, not heard that term or expression before? ???
What does it do, and I`ll see what I can find out for you ;)

Ok, if wanting to use "apps" on your stereo, then its unlikely that you will find a touch screen that can support them in a single DIN size as the screen area is just not big enough for fat fingers. Only suggestion I can think of is a pop out monitor, and even then you are going to struggle as many companies have stopped making those too.
Alpine, I think, still make a pop out single DIN monitor, but by the time you add all the extra modules and leads to make it work, you have priced yourself out of the running - Clarion still have quite a back catalogue of pop out monitors, but not sure whether they are compatible for the apps you are wanting to run.
Have a look at their website here to see if there are any contenders, and if you need any technical help with a specific model, then give me a yell and I`ll see how I can help

Darn, thought that was the case.
It's not a question of Apps so to speak, seen this in a couple of cars and it works well. Basically syncs your iPhone to the H/U, all messages calls, etc routed through it. You can use Apple maps through it, states traffic flow and such.

Yeah, but I play with Car Audio, not poor quality compressed music streamed by a badly made phone ;)
-
Played with Apps though - lots of the new cars have them ;)
What car is it going into then if single din is the only option?
-
Is there a particular app you have in mind - I must admit that I use GLYMPSE most of the time in mine, and really handy to see it on the car screen as well as the phone
-
FYI - the only "Approved" manufacturers to use "Apple Car Play" are Alpine, Pioneer and Kenwood - none of which have a single din unit available
:'(

Not a fan then Dave... :D

What gives you that idea (http://www.dndservices.co.uk/smiley/grin1.gif)

I would not use it for audio, mainly maps as I use the traffic feature to find best routes home.

Current generation TomTom is better for that, and doesn't try and sell you shite everytime it connects to tinternet ::)

WTF is Apple Car Play ?
Apple Car Play is pretty much Apples version of Mirrorlink, theres a bit of Political history involved, Mirrorlink was originally developed by Nokia when they developed 'Car Mode' which was originally designed for thier own Symbian, Meego and early Windows OS Mobiles, the idea being that a simple Car Mode Touch Screen / AVI could be mirrored to a Cars Screen via USB or Bluetooth APi.
Nokia, as they did a lot in them days, then released their development as an Open Source Platform, so that like minded Equipment manufactures, Mobile, Car Audio, Vehicles and OS and 3rd Party App Developers could bring it all forward in harmony as a future standard.
Apple didn't wont to play ball or participate, probably through arrogance, as Apple, at the time, saw Nokia jumping in to bed with Microsoft as a big threat to their iPhone product, how wrong they where, well from MS point of view anyway.
Mirrorlink is well established now, with Android, Windows phone, Blackberry devices and plenty of Apps out there making use of it. Apple's Car Play is its own propriety, meaning Vehicle manufactures will need to choose which one to commit to, as there not i any shape or form compatible, meaning one of two things will happen, Apples Car Play will end up a dead duck, or knowing Apple, they will make a Marketing success of it and Consumers will be faced with yet another decision when buying a new Car or replacing the the Cars OEM Audio System.
-
Good explanation - I have encountered Mirrorlink many times, just didn`t know Apple had their own name for their version
the term "Political History" tells me everything I needed to know :y :y
-
I sincerely hope Crapples version ends up being the dead duck in this case ;)

Why can't you find your way home without a sat-nav!
I just follow the white lines I paint on the way there. :D
