Title: Air con overhaul none Omega
Post by: Varche on 07 September 2016, 13:54:58
Having apretty awful time motoring wise as my 4x4 aircon is luke warm again. Had it regassed in June and for a while it was acceptable. It is 40c again in the shade today.

Might have a second car fornext summer so probably not worth trying to have it fixed.

What might the expense be for overhauling the system? Just seals and a valve or two plus labour and 50 for a recharge afterwards?   Or big ticket items? It looks to be a fairly basic system , no climate control or anything fancy. 14 years old.

Very likely a leaky condenser which is right out front and vulnerable to stone damage, probably quiter expensive on a diesel jap though :'(

How longs a piece of string.

Its generally not something you overhaul, more repair.

If its a slow leak then it could be seal (rare), filler valve or even the compressor shaft seal.

It could be a more spectacular failure though were a condenser or pipe has fractured.

Interesting to note that a common aircon pump (fitted to loads of makes including Astra's etc) also suffers a failure where a thermal fuse goes on the clutch coil, this usually results in replacement but, can actually be fixed, in-situ, without degassing the system!

Leaky condensor? Stone damage !  Sounds very possible. It has got worse and worse since June. Gradual rather than suddenly. I could see it costing big bucks euros to fix.

Might just put up with it and just use it as a workhorse around the campo.
