Title: X20XEV Oil pressure switch.
Post by: Olympia5776 on 09 September 2016, 18:58:00
Had a look to see if I could identify the source of a minor oil weep on the front engine area of my 2.0 FL .
It's either a weep from the cam cover above the alternator or from the oil pressure switch .
Now that pressure switch has me baffled as how to remove it . Due to the elect. switch part it requires a deep socket but once fitted it seems impossible to get the ratchet on to the end of the socket before you try to position it to turn it.....
The OS engine mount limits access and the chassis leg , block and cooling pipe also restrict movement too so the only way of actually getting it off seems to be a 24mm obstruction "S" spanner .
Typically, mine only go up to 22mm .
Such a simple little component seems to be in a thoroughly awkward place .
Or am I missing a trick ?

Can you not place a UJ with an extension or use a ratchet spanner?

Not enough room for a UJ on the end of the deep socket as the engine mount interferes. There's also a cast web on the block right below the pressure switch that prevents the thicker ring of a ratchet spanner fitting between the switch and the web.......I should have photo'd it when I was there .
I'll pick up a 24mm ring spanner tomorrow and heat and bend it to suit the space failing that I'll order an obstruction S bend 24mm ringer .
I think the weep may be coming from the threads of the switch and would like to replace it or at least wrap the threads in PTFE tape  to see if it stops . I've ordered a cam cover gasket set so that will also rule out that possibility .
