Did the battery go flat?

You can get it to default to English in such circumstances, but needs a Tech2.  GM couldn't be arsed to do that in the factory.

No problems with the battery,co incidently it happened when the transmission selector locked itself in park.I still have the selector problem and at the moment I'm releasing the selector manually,as the car is going up to Serek next week for a bit of investigation work re the foot brake switch. Will definitely try Tunnies tip. ;)

Hmmm, for it to just lose its settings for no reason is slightly concerning.  Any other symptoms with NCDC or display?

No other symptoms/warnings with the car at all other than the occasional car with the spanner icon coming on and then disappearing, and just having to be a part time gynecologist and having to stick my fingers into the internals of the selector mechanism to move the flap to allow drive etc to be selected.I had the car out over the weekend and gave it a 200 mile workout without problem. But definitely a problem with the brake pedal switch is number one and the German hyroglifics are just a bit of a nuisance. :-\

Nope, first time was after a lunch break, second time was when popping to the shops, so would have been left along all but 3 mins.

The only common denominator is it happened after a engine restart.

Hmmm, any chance battery was a bit low after starting and doing short trip, then doing another start?  Just wondering if it could have been a dip in batt voltage...

Unlikely, my batteries are all pretty good.  it was on a late 3.2 Elite, 2015, CID, Telematics etc all and still is working fine. :-\

Probably pure coincidence, but the main ECU did pack up on that car sometime afterwards.  :-\

Reminds me, a few years back I bought an Ex Plod Omega from Preston, Lancs, having already seen and tested the car, I went up by Train on a Sunday to drive it back to London, before jumping on the Motorway, I did some quick checks, Oil, Coolant, Tyre pressures, Bulbs etc, only to find zero Brakes Lights, quick visit to the local BP Garage proved fruitless as it wasn't the bulbs or any fuses, and decided it must be either a loom or switch problem, the previous owner must having been driving around like that for months.  ::)

As there wasn't much more I could do being a Sunday and lack of tools, I decided just to carefully drive it back and using, what was working, the rear fogs lights with the side lights on, using foot, brain, right finger on the fog switch as some sort of coordination to fake the brake lights. Needless to say being a Sunday, it was stop, start pretty much all the back, by the time I got back having just done 200+ miles journey, my right finger and brain was totally fc%ked, :D :( needed a few beers afterwards that night.  ;)

Was thinking along the same lines myself,I usually leave at 5.30a.m and I'm straight on to the M4/M25/A1M so hopefully not to much braking until the last 15mins in Huntingdon itself :-\

Reminds me, a few years back I bought an Ex Plod Omega from..

Similar story - the XJ12 I bought from Wales.. Not long after we left Wales I noticed the brake warning lamp would illuminate every time I braked; didn't think much of it (old, British, Lucas, etc! ;D) as the brakes still worked.. nearly home the warning lamp stopped illuminating again.

When we got back my friend who'd been following me said "You know your brake lights stopped working not long after we left and didn't start working again until Bracknell.."  :-[ :-[ :-X :-X

Coincidentally it had started raining as we left Wales and didn't stop until we were almost home. Very water-tight, that Jag... ;D

I`ve repaired a brake light switch before just by removing it, open it up and clean all the contacts and then apply some clean petroleum jelly, reassemble and re-fit.

Worth a try if it`s easily accessible  :y

You know you have faulty brakelights.  You should either fix the brakelights yourself or take it somewhere local who can, before driving it the 100 odd miles from Reading to Huntingdon....  ::)

On that car, the wiring loom was busy doing other things, mind.. like attaching the back end of the car to the front. ::)

;D ;D That is true! I think it was the only thing holding the inner wings in place, too. Pedal box was the only thing holding the firewall in..

Gravity and habit are often the only things that attach the body to the rear suspension

It was surprisingly hard to liberate that bit. Even harder to liberate the diff from the cradle.

Anyhoo.. we are in Gen Help, I suppose  :-[ :-[
