Title: Diagnostic kit .
Post by: Olympia5776 on 25 September 2016, 22:38:33
'99 2.0 X20XEV FL estate .
I really need to get a low cost diagnostic set for my car and after reading another thread on the help section where an OBD2 kit was suggested for a 2.2 thought that that would be the answer .
I looked a little further into it and see that the X20XEV seemingly  requires an O p c o m  system rather than an a OBD2 can anyone confirm this ?
Seen this an similar on Ebay
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/172242134658?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
If rubbish , is there a suggested diag. tool for the X20XEV Omega ?
Thanks .

The two are different animals. An OBDII code reader is that, just a code reader, the other item is a wanabee TechII that is able to do other things than just read codes

Maxiscan or similar is all you need :y

O.p.c.o.m is technically illegal in Uk and, ignoring the plethora of dodgy clones around, as such discussing it specifically will probably see you shot :-X

It can potentially also cause irreparable electronic damage is used to do more that code reading...

Hence, you need a code reader ;) (Spending "My Naff Code Reader" money for a code reader is plain daft)

Ok thanks .So can you confirm what platform is the diagnostic system on the X20XEV Omega ?
If Maxiscan is the flavour of the month is there a preferred, or indeed correct ,Maxiscan model for the X20XEV  ? 300 ,309,509 890 ...... :-\
All I seek is a simple code reader and reset unit .
Thanks

Have used the 309 to good effect on the 3.2 :y

Someone wiser will hopefully confirm its suitability for the 2.0...

One thing that may help selection is that the Simtec 56 2.0 fault codes are the ones that equate to the sequence of flashes from the paper clip test .

Thanks .
I'm familiar with the paper clip test and have used it for the 14 years I've owned the car .
I just want to have a plug in scanner with the ability to cancel/reset.

Anyone confirm if the Maxiscan will work on a X20Xev ?
Thanks

It won't work on your car.
Maxiscan is an OBD2/EOBD tool, and only post-2001 Omegas are compliant.

What you need is to buy The tool we must not name from Ebay, which will be much more useful to you.
