Some of you may know i am currently doing my final year multimedia project at Brunel Uni.
I am making a multimeda application that will run on mobile phones, designed for Theme parks such as Thorpe Park. You soon will be able to text a number and my program will be sent to your phone. Basics are it gives u techy info on rides, speeds, gforces ect... also how the rides working techincally. There will also be a queue tools system where it will give you a live up to date queue time of a ride on your phone, i have butched up 2 designs in photoshop... what do ya think?
Design 1

Design 2

Thanks
P.S Should be making a questionaire soon, but if there was any one feature you would want on your mobile in a theme park let me know! .... (apart from a sick bag ;D)

Design 1 is a lot better. The second design is quite harsh on the eye

Agree. Number 1 is much softer
-
thanks, i was thinking that... not made a copy that will work on my phone yet. the only problem is resolution.
I have a Nokia N70 & N80. The N80's screen is much, much sharper and brighter, but i need it to work on the N70's
Just working on a 3rd design now...
Cheers for comment :y

I do agree no1 is softer on the eyes.....but i was just thinking that dont forget you will be outside and no2 might be easier to see esp if the suns out.
And dont forget the 1/2 blind gits like me......no2 would easier to see....im long sighted and already have to hold my mobile at arms length to read the display :'(

So if you happen to use it while driving, do people think you are turning right ;D

numero uno for me Tunnie :y
-
The larger text will make it clearer on phones, esp those with smaller screens. Not entirely convinced with font though, but readability is key :y
-
In rough order my thoughts are; beer, money, the g/f, food, toys, family, weather, miggy . . . :P
-
cheers for the replys all :)
The font is not a standard one, i found it on 'betterfonts.com' - I'd like to use a non-standard font to give it a differnt look.
Must thank TD.. just given me an idea for some cool testing! - We are supposed to design/test our ideas. I could take photos of each design outside in the daylight! - Cheers TD :y

No coz im left handed ;D
Actually phone is in one of those gripper things with a suction pad stuck on the windscreen......so i can see it then :y
And i use the voice activation for making calls.......when it bloody get it right! It seems to like phoning my mum and dad no matter what name i shout at it! ;D
Spose i'll have to redo all the voice recordings when im actually in the Omega......i guess its the different acoustics thats upsetting it :-/
-
Design #1 for me & I wonder about 'Safety record' of a ride, but probably :- notalotapeople wanna know that :o
-
I like number better........................
But I don't like either. :(

No probs Tunnie :y Summat useful i said at last then ;D

... also how the rides working techincally.
Just reread your post Tunnie.........does that bit mean.....the ride is working just about at the moment and might crash at any time.....so best not to go on it.....unless you like real fun ;D
-
1 looks better for me.
On the font debate did you know that dyslexics find fonts such as comic sans easier to read than something like TNR and avoid using black on white, pastel shaded paper is more readable. Hope this helps.

Like the 1st, 1 m8

Did't really make that bit clear did I.
Well yes there will be a bit on each ride saying its working fine or has technical problems.
Planning to have an RSS news feed on there to, so that would also say if any ride has a techincal problem
Both of these would be more usefull in larger theme parks like Alton Towers which is massive, takes like 40 mins to get from Nemesis to Oblinvion. So saves a walk if its down for 1 hour or something.
There will be also a section aimed at dads or older people, who might want to know how it works technically, such as Stealth using magnets to propell it from 0-80 mph in 2.3 seconds!! :o - I went on that, rips ya eye balls out almost! ;D
Also give other techo stuff like launch control basics and braking systems.
Saftey record - kjohn thanks! :y. Never thought of that, usefull since most have never had an accident although if someone gets killed on one i doubt they are going to want to list it!... ah well could be a percentage 99% safe ;) ;D
There's always one..... come on Ronnie, whats wrong? - I'll butcher up another one just for u ;)
-
No1 for me - but what about old phones with no picture facility - or do we assume target market will be young & eqipt with lastest gear?
Something to add for family with kids - location of toilets and how long the q is there. ;)
-
I hate mobile phones - all I want to do is make a call, but too many buttons to press to make one.
We have had new phones at work - the charger broke on my Motorola V70 (eay to use) so I am using a Nokia with stupid tunes which nearly gets stepped on when used.
-
Will it work on my mobile. Its one with a red led display....

At the moment i am targetting it at Symbian Based phones, Symbian is a mini operating system, and runs slower than a "normal phone"
I will have a system for the older phones out there, i will offer 3 services of my flexmo service (flexmo is just a random name i thought off, its crap if u have any better ideas pls i'd love to hear them!
flexmo Raw - Text Only based services: - e.g: you text "nemesis" to 555555 and you will get a text back saying its current queue time and any techincal problems. - Working with another student on that one
flexmo - A WAP based site, for sligher newer phones with WAP and the latest with WiFi can access a website, with the same info on.
flexmo Ripe - Full blown program on you mobile downloading info to your phone, at the moment this will only work on Symbian S60 2nd/3rd Edition with FlashLite.
The full program only works with FlashLite 2.0, my N80 was shipped with FlashLite 1.1 pre-installed and a lot of Sony Ericsons are now comming with it pre-installed to. FlashLite 2.0 should be being shipped pre-installed within 6 months, which is when my project will be finished!
Jaime i though u had a Nokia 6230i ?
-
Like design 1 but not sure on the whole idea. Sorry!
I go to Alton Towers in October when it is pissing down and there are never any queues! All my phone would show would be 0 minutes.
Might be nice for people who go in busy season though.
Good Luck with it and I would be happy to test it for you (assuming you are paying for my entry ticket)
-
Flexmo sounds like a Flymo with an electrical wire. What about something that sums up the service such as Qbust Gold, Silver and Bronze levels - but check copywright for any name you choose - you woudn't want to be sued. :P
-
Jaime i though u had a Nokia 6230i ?
I've just checked it, and I'm not sure if I am impressed, or if I should be worried about you....

I can test it all from here, although i did do a "research" trip to Thorpe Park ;D
I too tend to go to theme parks out of season, but on a work trip i went in season, my god was it packed!!
This is aimed at the school kids really, up to people in their 20's... a little googling found a goverment study that said 95% of 15 year olds have mobiles!!! and 71% of 12 year olds! :o
-
Numero Uno per me, prego.
But you should take care not to use too dark pictures as background - they make reading the text difficult, especially in bright daylight as TD says..

;D ;D ;D - My memory works a bit oddly, can't remember some stuff atall, yet i can remember the reg plates of my dads previous 4 cars dating back to 1993! :-? :o
I agree flexmo is a crap name, but i just can't think of another one. It sposed to stand for flexible mobile, but sucks really. The program is not just for queue information, my project supervisor wants to know how it can be turned to use in other applications such as a Museam or something, so the name has to be a generic term for it...
Basics are its, mobile based, uses lots of technolgy, you get information from it, its a navigational aid type thing.
iMap did spring to mind, but thats too much a rip off from Apple ;D

What ever name i get i google it to make sure its not anything else like a sware word in another langauge, i also Wikipedia it. I did come up with some better ones, but no domains were available and they had other companys using that name.
hummm maybe something like Q-Nav?... For theme parks it could be QueueNav and for a musuem say, QuestionNav.... hummm just though of that as typing this, going to see if a .com / .co.uk is free for it :)
-
STOP PRESS!!!
Just bought qnav.co.uk
Googled & Wikipedia'd it, nothing really so i had it. Supprised there was a .co.uk domain free.
Like to say a big thanks to Chopsdad who got me thinking of a name again, i was racking my brain for weeks before, dunno how i missed it. I decided to forget about the name and get on with making it... comming back to it was a good idea.
QNav, its a small sweet easy to remember name... remember you saw it here first ;)
-
Design 1 for me looks more readable than Design 2. :y
-
Like QNav. Good one.
-
If your going to show the location of the toilets it would be lavnav. ;D
-
Number 2, far clearer ;)
-

I might actually use that!!! ;D ;D
