Need to change the brake calipers on one of the 3.2's and have had a look around various suppliers, with not a lot of luck, there is a company that will refurb my old calipers for around a £150,but I'm going to lose the use of the car for at least a week while they are being done, and what's their standard of work like?so I really would prefer to buy new.Is there anyone amongst us that can point me to a decent supplier, would be much apreciated :y
-
Front or rear?
Front ones are Lucas.
-
Sorry,my fault....fronts :y
-
As I'm quite sure that PFL and FL uses the same, than, yes, Lucas.
PS. What's wrong with yours?
-
Combination of poor quality and old age, they need binning and being replaced with something better :y

There's not much in a sliding caliper to go wrong. If the piston isn't oppsed, some basic maintenance will return the caliper to working order.

Just found Bosch calipers,it looks like they are £177 each with BuyCarSpares.co.uk.They show a pair but reading the advert it's not clear that it's a pair you are buying...would be nice if that price was for a pair :-\
-
I seem to remember that they weren't too badly priced from Vauxhall :-\
-
Serek took a look at the one that's giving a problem, and suggested replacing it,so that's going to be both. :)
Also as suggested will try VX,but our local branch is a absolute pita as they have an Omega aversion problem that makes them to say the least 'unhelpful' :-\
-
Just spoke to VX,brake calipers.....no longer available!

They joys of doing buissines with main dealer 8) 8)
If your slider assymbly is in bad condition, this is really easy to replace (there are kits for that, with slider pins and boots).

I don't touch safety critical items on the car, dangerous for me and dangerous for other road users ;D I'm with Serek later this week,so will seek some advice from him on the best way to do this,I'm pretty sure that he said that the caliper is pretty well fubared though :-\
-
Only thing to be aware of is the early 2.0 models have a smaller front caliper - you sometimes see very very cheap pads, which of course won#t fit, you might end up finding a motorfactor who can do you some calipers for a suspiciously cheap price - just double check they're for all Omegas after 1998 (when they made all front calipers the same size) :)

Omegod's got some calipers for sale....

Monaro calipers. Or www.bigred.co.uk (http://www.bigred.co.uk)
-
Ken.
I had a full set of 4 refurbished by Big Red some years ago on my old MFL.
As I didnt want car off the road I bought the cheapest set I could find off fleabay ,which when arrived looked horrible and rusty with pistons seized and seals all split.
Sent them to Big Red and in less than 10 days had all 4 back looking like they were brand new.All seals/pistons renewed along with high quality colour coating of your choice and think the 4 were sub £400 delivered and returned.
My advise would be to see how much they would charge as I can say their work and service was 1st Class

I replaced mine on 2.5 from GSF without problem :y

Thanks every one for the info, going to have look at Pauls GTO brake conversion on Friday up at Serek's place, may well consider that option for one car and get the others refurbed with the info provided.

That's triply annoying, as the company I mentioned I am certain was Bigg Red - so if they refurb them I have no idea why they weren't able to supply the right caliper slide pins. I am sure their work is of top class, and no wish to bad mouth them, the item I got was very good quality, low price, looked great, just the wrong size.
-
Did you go back to them about the problem, and were they able to resolve it for you?
-
They offered another one, which they thought would fit, but I never got round to following it up. As I say, no wish to bad mouth them, because by that time I'd sourced replacement low-mileage slide bolts from an actual Omega.
The ones they had by 'their records' fitted Omega, but trust me, they don't, unless their records are Opel Omega/Omega A, or perhaps even early 2.0 Omega Bs only. After borrowing a nearby tool shop's digital calipers I measured the original pins, sent them the dimensions and they offered me another set which were 'nearly there' (I seem to recall correct diameter, just slightly shorter, which in theory would be fine, but fitting pins that were technically too short didn't feel ideal). As I say, by that time I had got some original GM ones (you can't buy them on their own from Vx, by the way) so never bothered to follow it up, for the above reasons. :)
If anyone wants some for a Seat Alhanbrambrhaha let me know :y
