Hi, I am new to the forum and I was hoping the people might be king enough to answer some omega questions for me as I am considering get one.
What mpg could I expect to get from a 2.2 Dti: stop start rush hour traffic, steady 55 open road, steady 40 (10 mins), stop in traffic (4 mins), repeated for 1 hour.
How noisy is the Dti engine compared to Renault 1.9 Dci engine.
Does the drivers seat have the same adjustments as the Vectra C, particularly the on that changes the angle of the seat base.
What is the bodywork underneath like for rust.
What are they like for reliability and to repair, suspension, engine, electrics.
Thanks for your time. :)

Probably around 40mpg? How much stop start before the 55mph open road runs?

DTi is fairly tractor like, I'd say there is little difference. Assume talking of Laguna here?

Yes all seat bases can have change in angle, however Elite spec seats have more degree of change than standard seats.
What is the bodywork underneath like for rust.
Given newest examples are 2003? Can be hit and miss, but most will be rusting well now. Sills tend to go first, rather than arches.

Fuel pump generally writes the 2.2 DTi off, but other than that generally reliable. Suffer from all Omega issues, budget for new wishbones, drop links, and shocks though as most will have decent miles on them.

Omega seats are more comfy and have better leg support over the VeccyC

Above just about spot on although the pump issues can normally be sorted cheaper and by better ways than changing the pump.....usually! Love my old Elite (non leather) as it just wafts me along nicely without drinking gallons of go juice.

I think the arches, particularly around the rear door when its open, given a reasonable idea of sill condition.
IME, arches do tend to go first. I think your greenie suffered badly at the abuse of being parked under those trees all that time.

The only downside of the 2.2dti is that it is only available in manual flavour which doesn't suit everyone. I dislike the Omega manual box because of the very long throw

That sounds very similar to the vectra box

Is the main pump failure usually caused by lack of fuel, lift pump fitted or not? How much does a pump repair cost?

Can't answer directly re: the cost of a pump (I have a 2.5TD, totally different animal), but I think most on here would agree when I say that whatever you do, you need to budget doing most mechanical work on an Omega yourself. A timing belt (on the V6) will cost maybe £600 at a garage, but do it yourself and it's only £100 for the parts (plus hiring/borrowing a locking kit) and so on...
So doing the pump will cost just parts, and by definition no more expensive than any other car, really. Plus the massive spares resource available on here. People have had whole leather interiors for free on here!

Lack of fuel (lubricant and coolant for the pump) is usually the swiftest killer. Not changing the fuel filter regularly seems to be another cause. Main issue seems to be the electrics (which is on the pump and the fuel cools) fails but these can now be replaced with the pump in situ and there are many sites on the web that will tell you how to do this.... and a price for the fix. No lift pump and bleeding is a pig (which is why people kill the pump by running it dry) but one you have done it a couple of times not to much of an issue really. I use a £5 suction pump I bought from an autojumble (also does the diff oil nicely). My main issue when I bought mine was finding one without leather cos I hate the stuff for seating, indoors or in the car, to cold or sticky for me!! Looks nice though!
AS DBG said you need to be able to handle a spanner on any Omega to make it viable.
