Moving Storage (again ::), so put the word about if I could beg, borrow, steal a Van to help, turned out via friend of a friend, I can get my hands on late Astra 03 1.6 Van, which is parked up doing nothing, when we spoke beer money for 'Use Of' turned out for a few more tokens I can buy it off him, bonus being it has fully working LPG fitted, so could be a cheap run around.
Going to view it tomorrow, so any pointers on what to look out for, common problems etc on the Astra G's, although dont want to come across too fussy to the guy as its a Runner with MOT and going for not much money.
Cheers Chris. :y

Ok LD, I'll make sure the Tow Eye Hook works then. ;)

It's a car based van, so all of the car faults show up much earlier due to overloading and driver abuse. That's if the driver owns the vehicle; company owned ones are abused form the moment the driver is given it until it breaks about 20 minutes later.

It WILL use oil and puff Blue smoke after a period of idling / when first started.
Change plugs and only use single electrode. Dealers will insist you need twins
40k Cambelt kit changes. Easy diy job.
Lpg pipe work may show its age
Good cars though !

Cheers Nick, James, yea just googled some info, its an 8V so as you say James piss to change Belt :y personally didn't think they were still banging out 8v lumps in 2003, thought it would have been 16V.
-
Ah ok, the 8v lump may not be so bad on the oil puffing front. Just get it as cheap as poss and run it into the ground ;D

At what you're suggesting you're going to pay for it, you can't really lose out, can you?

My auntie had a 2002 1.6 16v estate from 12 months old and only changed it this year for a motability.admittedly low mileage at 65k but in all that time never failed an mot and apart from routine stuff tyres exhaust and brakes only needed a new air con rad.
Brilliant cars.
John.
