Title: Monaro innards....
Post by: Diamond Black Geezer on 18 October 2016, 15:57:11
Just further to another thread, here's an interesting thread showing a (worryingly rusty, given its youth) Monaro which has been given some welding...

Nice job, too. But it's interesting when comparing similarities / differences between the two hemisphere's version of Omega/Commodore  :)

The Aussies don't apply any corrosion protection as such and certainly nowhere near the amount we have on our cars.

I was always a bit concerned at the levels of corrosion prevention applied by Holden to these cars...

Looked pretty bad , but  looks like a good repair to me not that I know anything about welding etc.

Indeed!

It's certainly something for anyone to bear in mind for anyone used to their Euro-spec cars. I know for a fact having been behind the plastic sill cover recently, that the corrosion levels of my 187k, 20 year-old Omega isn't a tenth of that car. At the most that's 2004? And that thread's a year old, so that's about a ten year old machine, realistically. Ouch.  :o

Not dissimilar to when Lotus took an old jigsaw to the arches of the Carlton, and painted them in brine before fitting the bodykits to LCs...

Sounds like Lotus on a good day, that. :D

That`s one of the reasons I didn`t go for one when looking for a replacement for the Omega.
