Title: Round and round in circles
Post by: Nickbat on 29 November 2006, 12:31:28
Some of you may remember reading my summer posts about the aircon on my Meega.

I needed a new compressor in late July, because the bearings went on the old one. No problem, I thought and got a secondhand one from a place in Brum for £75. Got royally ripped off by the garage where I took the car to have it replaced (over £250, if I recall). They didn't replace the seals, so the gas leaked out in a week. I replaced the seals and the receiver/dryer (£120), which also had a leak. Had it gassed (£70) only to find all the gas leaked out in a week owing to a faulty high side valve, Got a new valve, but the local garage stripped the thread off the old one, so I had to get a new length of piping from Vx (£45). Had it regassed. Lasted a week as the  piping under the compressor had sprung a leak. Finally sourced a secondhand pipe for about £40 and had it fitted and regassed for about £70. Lasted about a week before the gas leaked out. Took it in today and they found that the compressor was leaking from its casing.

I now need a new compressor.

Wait a minute, isn't that where I started? :'( :'(

Have you got a big red mark on your forehead from banging it against the wall?

Jesus christ! I'll bet if you'd known from the beginning you'd have just done without it. If mine wont ever work after a re-gas, its staying broke!

hmmm perhaps an aircon specialist might be a better bet, if they get involved as far as changing compressors & pipework that is!!

That would be my favoured option. People always say that you wont get much for it if bits dont work.......but you wont get much for it anyway ;D

Had exactly same problem June this year £560 it cost at Vx dealer....started off at 60..then 160...then 560, when I picked the car up, the Vx bloke said should've cost extra 150 on labour but he did'nt charge me :-?...I think he just said that to make me feel better ;D ;D...Like hes just saved me some drinking money ;D

Aircon in my opinion is just like plumbing once you start to disturb things the whole job can turn to sh*t >:(
